PM impressed by BJP's win in bypolls to seats having minority voters: Tripura CM
BJP's win in recent bypolls to two assembly seats which have sizeable minority voters. He also said the saffron party won the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats because of development activities undertaken by the Centre and the state government. «During my meeting with the prime minister in Delhi recently, Modi ji asked me how the BJP won the two assembly constituencies with a huge margin as Boxanagar and Dhanpur have a substantial number of electors from the minority community,» Saha said at a party programme in South Tripura's Rajnagar, a bordering area. In the Boxanagar assembly seat with the majority of voters belonging to the minority community, the BJP nominee won the by-election by over 20,000 votes whereas the CPI(M) candidate's deposit money was forfeited. The BJP retained the Dhanpur assembly constituency with a margin of 18,000 votes, where tribal and Muslim voters are factors. «We have not heard of such massive wins of BJP in any other state where minority voters are a factor.

India-Canada ties all time low: Delhi’s reaction awaited following Trudeau’s allegations
Trudeau on Tuesday stating in his country’s parliament that the security agencies were investigating a link between the “agents” Indian government and the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar earlier this year. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that a top Indian diplomat posted in the country has been expelled based on the “investigations” in what would be the first such action against an Indian diplomat posted in the West. The Indian government is expected to react strongly during the course of the day on these developments. «Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar,» Trudeau said while speaking at the House of Commons in Ottawa on Tuesday. "Canada has declared its deep concerns to the top intelligence security officials of the Indian government. Last week, at the G20, I brought them personally and directly to Prime Minister Modi in no uncertain terms," the Canadian Prime Minister said. Trudeau urged the Indian government to «cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter» and reiterate its position on «extra-judicial operations» in another country. «If proven true, this would be a great violation of our sovereignty and of the most basic rule of how countries deal with each other,» Joly said.

Supreme Court quashes Religare Finvest's plea against DBS Bank India
Supreme Court has quashed an FIR and the consequent criminal proceedings against DBS Bank India over a ₹791-crore fund diversion case filed by Religare Finvest Ltd (RFL). The original petition, a civil suit at the Delhi High Court (HC) and an FIR with the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police, were filed against Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB), which later merged with DBS India on a direction from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). After the merger, RFL sought to implead DBS in the criminal complaints along with former LVB officials. A Supreme Court bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Arvind Kumar, while setting aside Delhi High Court's order to continue the proceedings by EOW, said last week that permitting prosecution of DBS for the acts of LVB officials would result in a travesty of justice. RFL had accused LVB of misappropriation of fixed deposits furnished by it as security for short-term loans availed of by its group companies RHC Holding and Ranchem.
