Parties squabble over women’s quota bill but extend support
NEW DELHI : The historic women’s reservation bill was presented in Parliament on Tuesday, with both the government and opposition Congress party jostling for credit. The bill, with a sub-quota for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, was the first to be introduced in the new Parliament building, 13 years after the first attempt to pass it. Despite their criticism about the lack of a clear timeline to implement the law, all opposition parties are expected to support it.

Jio AirFiber: Reliance Jio launches fixed wireless service in 8 cities
Reliance Jio on Tuesday launched its fixed wireless access (FWA) device — Jio AirFiber — in eight cities — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, just over a month after rival Bharti Airtel introduced its own device in two cities, as both telcos make initial attempts at monetising their 5G services. «Our extensive fiber-to-the-home service JioFiber, already serves over 10 million customers...With JioAirFiber, we are expanding our addressable market to rapidly cover every home in our country with similar quality of service,» Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, said in a statement. A fixed wireless device uses radio frequencies instead of cables/fibres to provide fixed broadband access, using technologies like 5G. Simply put, these are portable broadband devices, much like dongles but with better coverage and speeds. The Jio AirFiber service has been launched with multiple plans ranging from 30 Mbps speeds to 1000 Mbps speeds, all available in blocks of six months and 12 months, the telco said in the statement. The plans are available in two buckets — Jio AirFiber and Jio AirFiber Max.

Imphal-based civil body bans Manipuri film actor Soma Laishram for three years
Manipuri film actor Soma Laishram from acting and social functions for three years sending shockwaves to the film fraternity of the strife-torn state. The group, Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) alleged her of taking part as a show stopper in a beauty pageant in New Delhi on Saturday despite a general appeal it made to the people and personal advice to her to desist from partaking in such programmes when Manipur is “still burning” for the last four months. Film Forum Manipur (FFM), the umbrella body of all film bodies of the state, nevertheless expressed dissatisfaction over KKL’s decree on Soma and said it would move on to bring a solution to it. Soma, who has acted in over 150 Manipuri films and bagged numerous awards, clarified that certain misjudgements on her participation at the Delhi event were there. On 16 September, Soma participated as a show stopper in a concluding programme of the North East Students’ Festival held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi that celebrated the cultural heritage of the northeast where she passionately spoke on the unprecedented current turmoil in Manipur and used the platform to appeal for support from all for peace and normalcy in the Manipur. “As a professional actor and a social influencer it is my responsible to communicate and speak up about the crisis in Manipur and I chose this platform,” the celebrity actor said. “The event I participated is a northeast festival hosted by My Home India, a non-profit organisation and the programme I took part is a cultural program celebrating cultural heritage of northeast,” she said. A resident of the Kongeng Hajari Leikai in Imphal West district said, she got a call from the concerned organisation a day prior to the programme and suggested that she

Lessors should move division bench of High Court: Go First RP
New Delhi: In a reply before the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, the Resolution Professional (RP) for grounded airline Go First stated that the airline's aircraft lessors, BOC Aviation (Ireland) Ltd, ACG Aircraft Leasing Ireland, and DAE 13 Ireland Designated Activity Co, should approach the division bench of the court for directives on aircraft maintenance. The RP argued that the single bench should not pass any directives because, according to the "doctrine of merger," the single bench's 5 July order has already merged with the 12 July division bench order of the High Court, which upheld and modified it. Both orders have been upheld by the Supreme Court, and the plea for modification has reached its finality.
