Pavel Durov, the Russian-born founder of Telegram who was arrested in Paris, has nothing to hide it is absurd to hold an owner responsible for abuse of the messaging and social media platform, Telegram said in a statement. Durov, a 39-year-old billionaire cast as "Russia's Mark Zuckerberg", was arrested at Le Bourget airport outside Paris shortly after landing on a private jet late on Saturday from Azerbaijan. The arrest of the Telegram CEO prompted a warning from Moscow to Paris that he should be accorded his rights, and criticism from X owner Elon Musk who said that free speech in Europe was under attack.

Telegram messaging app, Paul Durov, who had an arrest warrant issued against him, was detained by the French authorities at an airport outside Paris, CNN reported. Officers from France's anti-fraud office, attached to French customs, took the French-Russian billionaire into custody on Saturday evening after he arrived at Bourget Airport on a flight from Azerbaijan, according to CNN affiliate BFMTV. Durov, 39, was wanted under a French arrest warrant due to the lack of moderation on Telegram, which allegedly led to the platform being used for money laundering, drug trafficking and sharing pedophilic content.

Cash-strapped Pakistan seeks $4 bn loan from Middle East banks to meet financial obligations
IMF's approval. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and his team had a virtual meeting with Dr Adnan Chilwan, Group CEO of Dubai Islamic Bank, on Thursday, the Dawn newspaper reported on Friday. On Wednesday, a similar interaction was held with Mashreq Bank President and Group CEO Ahmed Abdelaal. Both meetings had been arranged to «discuss the economic outlook and explore investment opportunities in Pakistan». For the current fiscal year, Pakistan has pitched about USD 20 billion in foreign borrowing in the budget, besides another USD 3 billion rollover from the UAE that was reported separately for the balance of payments. With this much borrowing, Pakistan's reserves are estimated to grow to about USD 19-20 billion by the end of the current fiscal year.

SpiceJet on Monday managed to avert a shutdown of its flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, resolving a tricky situation in the nick of time which could have affected several passengers. On Monday evening, CSMIA issued a passenger advisory stating that operations stating that effective midnight on 13 August 2024, SpiceJet flight operations from Mumbai International Airport are expected to be temporarily disrupted. “Mumbai International Airport is working with the airline to address the situation to minimise inconvenience to passengers,” the company said. However, within a few hours, the Adani-operated airport withdrew the advisory. In the meanwhile, the Ajay Singh-promoted SpiceJet issued a statement saying, «The passenger advisory issued by MIAL has been withdrawn. Our flight operations in and out of Mumbai are operating normally. SpiceJet and MIAL have worked collaboratively to swiftly resolve a minor financial matter.”
