Uber Technologies is in early stages of discussions to acquire BluSmart Mobility, the Gurugram-based all-electric cab service operator, two people in the know said. A deal could help Uber increase its presence in the growing space for electric cabs in India as well as signal consolidation in the urban mobility industry. The discussions come at a time when Gensol Engineering, the solar engineering procurement and construction company promoted by BluSmart cofounder Anmol Singh Jaggi, is facing liquidity issues. “Uber is scoping out BluSmart’s assets...particularly the electric vehicle fleet, which could help shore up its presence in the segment,” one of the people said.

Real estate developers have acquired 5,885 acres land during 2022-24 for Rs 90,000 crore to build projects amid strong demand for housing and commercial assets, according to JLL India. Real estate consultant JLL India data showed that real estate developers bought 1,603 acres of land in 2022 for Rs 18,112 crore, 1,947 acres in 2023 for Rs 32,203 crore. During 2024, the land acquisition by developers touched 2,335 acres costing Rs 39,742 crore. During the 2022-24 period, real estate developers bought 5,885 acres for Rs 90,057 crore.

Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday announced the dates for the 2024-25 playoffs with two-legged semifinals scheduled between April 2-6 and the final to be played on April 12. ITAT) in Mumbai has ruled in favour of an individual who claimed non-resident status for tax purposes as he had spent 210 days abroad for work and job search, according to a TOI report by Lubna Kably. The tribunal clarified that an individual’s tax residency status must be decided only based on the number of days spent in India. M Gulati, the taxpayer, did not disclose his overseas income of Rs 1.2 crore for the financial year 2015-16, asserting that he was a non-resident because he stayed in India for less than 182 days. The Income-tax department, however, contended that of the 210 days spent outside India, 28 days were used to search for employment and thus should not be counted. Based on this, the department treated him as a tax resident, making his global income taxable in India. The ITAT rejected this argument and held that days spent abroad for seeking employment must be considered as valid for determining non-resident status. The tribunal referred to Explanation 1 to section 6(1) of the Income-tax Act, which provides that if a person leaves India for employment purposes, they will be considered a tax resident only if they stay in India for 182 days or more in that year.

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has been cautioned by a Mumbai court to exercise restraint during interviews as any «irresponsible» statement by a senior politician like him can spark riots. Additional Sessions Judge V G Raghuwanshi schooled Azmi while granting him anticipatory bail on Tuesday in a case filed against the SP legislator for his remarks praising Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. The offence concerns some statements made during an interview and it means police do not need custody for seizure of any article or interrogation, the court said in the order, a copy of which was made available on Thursday. Noting that Azmi is a politician and businessman and it was improbable that he would run away from the course of justice, the judge said it was a «fit case to exercise discretion» in his favour. «Before parting with the order I would like to caution the applicant (Azmi) to exercise restraint on himself while giving interviews, having regards to prevailing circumstances. Any irresponsible statement can flare riots and create law and order problems,» the court said. «I hope the applicant, being a senior politician, will understand his responsibility,» it added.

I have seen several normal, ordinary programs touted as AI,” he remarked at TiECon Mumbai, an annual conference of entrepreneurs. In a conversation with TiE Mumbai founding president Harish Mehta, Murthy explained that there are two fundamental principles behind true AI: the first is machine learning, which enables large-scale correlation to make predictions; the second is deep learning, which mimics how the human brain works, using unsupervised algorithms.
