New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually distribute more than 70,000 appointment letters to newly-inducted recruits on 22 July, the prime minister’s office said on Friday. The Rozgar Mela will be held at 44 locations across the country.

New Delhi: Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat has been freed of waterlogging, a week after waters from the Yamuna river inundated the complex. Officials on Friday said, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena who was supervising the operation to drain flood water from the lawns and pathways of the memorial, visited Rajghat and took stock of the situation.

New Delhi: In view of emerging threat of vector borne diseases in the national Capital post Delhi floods situation, the city’s drug department has warned chemists or pharmacy shops to avoid sale of drugs like Aspirin, ibuprofen and diclofenac group of medicines without the prescription of registered medical practitioner.  Medical experts believe that these set of drugs cause destruction of platelets in human blood. A person diagnosed with dengue infection usually suffers from low platelet count which becomes a fatal condition.  These directions come in the backdrop of rainy season which tends to be the favorable condition for dengue, chikungunya and other vector borne disease.  An advisory issued by KR Chawla, Delhi’s drug controller stated, “Retail chemists are therefore, advised not to indulge in the over-the-counter sale NSAIDs drugs like Aspirin, ibuprofen and diclofenac group of medicines with immediate effect till further directions.

NEW DELHI : The stock price of Jio Financial Services Ltd was discovered at ₹261.85 apiece at a special pre-opening session conducted on Thursday, exceeding analysts’ estimates of ₹125-250. The National Stock Exchange scheduled the special pre-open session between 9 and 10 am to determine the price for Jio Financial in the capital market segment. The move followed Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL) decision to spin off its financial services business, Reliance Strategic Investments Ltd, and change its name to Jio Financial Services.

New Delhi: India and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on semiconductor development, which will include design, manufacturing, equipment research and talent development.  Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the agreement as a substantial step to create a resilient complete value chain. "The MoU is on five fronts, viz. semiconductor design, manufacturing, equipment research, talent development, and bringing resilience to the semiconductor supply chain," said Vaishnaw.

NEW DELHI : Byju’s former statutory auditor Deloitte, in a regulatory filing in June, signalled concerns about alleged weaknesses in internal financial controls within Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd, the company that runs the tutoring service, official documents filed with the registrar of companies (RoC) showed. The digitally signed report from the auditor has only one attachment—the resignation letter shared with the board, and no further reference to any lapses in the company, showed the document accessed by Mint from the government’s website for statutory filings of companies.

New Delhi: New formal sector workers added under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) fell to about 1.63 million in May, down from 1.72 million recorded during the previous months, according to the latest payroll data released by the government.  About 1.68 million new workers were added to the formal sector during May 2022.  "The data indicates that around 8.83 lakh new members enrolled during May, 2023 are highest during the last six months. Among the newly joined members, the age-group of 18-25 years constitutes 56.42% of total new members added during the month," said a statement from the Ministry of Labour and Employment. "Around 11.41 lakh members exited but rejoined EPFO who may have switched their jobs and re-joined the establishments covered under EPFO and opted to transfer their accumulations instead of applying for final settlement thus extending their social security protection," it added.

NEW DELHI : Infosys Ltd on Thursday reported its weakest June quarter revenue growth since FY21 and slashed its annual sales forecast for the current fiscal year. The Bengaluru-based tech bellwether said that in constant currency terms, which does not account for currency fluctuations, revenue rose 1% from the preceding quarter and 4.2% from the year earlier to touch ₹37,933 crore. Net profit rose 10.9% from a year earlier to ₹5,945 crore, while operating margin came in at 20.8%, in line with its guidance of 20-22% for the fiscal.

New Delhi: India and Sri Lanka are expected to discuss economic connectivity and China during the visit of president Ranil Wickremesinghe starting on Friday. This is the Sri Lankan president’s first visit to India since taking office after his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa was swept from power amid mass protests in 2022. Wickremesinghe’s visit comes even as his country continues to grapple with a protracted economic crisis with inflation soaring at 25.2%.

New Delhi: Streaming platform Netflix has finally decided to introduce curbs on password sharing in India, a move aimed at building scale as well as ringing in revenue growth, said media experts. However, this could result in significant decline in subscriber numbers, they added. On Thursday, the company said it would start sending out emails to subscribers sharing the service with people outside the household in India.

New Delhi: India’s pace of road building slowed in the June quarter, road ministry data showed, at a time the government is looking to raise the annual construction target ahead of a series of elections this year and next. According to the data, only 16% or about 2,250 km of the annual target of 14,000 km was built in the first quarter, which typically sees a pickup in construction continuing from increased pace in the March quarter. Road construction stood at 523 km in April and jumped to 1465 km in May, before slumping to 263 km in June.

New Delhi: India is considering expanding its solar STAR-C initiative, run by the International Solar Alliance, to a number of Pacific Island countries, according to persons aware of the matter. The programme aims to boost solar power ecosystems in the poorest countries. In the Pacific, it currently runs in Tonga.

NEW DELHI : The Central government and pharma companies are discussing the possibility of developing a vaccine against sickle cell anaemia. The matter was discussed in a recent meeting of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization. As apart of the government’s National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month, the government is also upgrading the healthcare facilities to providing tertiary care to sickle cell patients.
