DPIIT reviews infrastructure projects of Railways, MoRTH and MoHUA to boost Gati Shakti plan
infrastructure projects under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), a national master plan for multi-modal connectivity, that brings 16 ministries, including railways and roadways together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects. Chaired by Additional Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Rajeev Singh Thakur, the meeting was held in New Delhi on June 12, 2024. These infrastructure projects belong to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Ministry of Railways (MoR), and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

NC, PDP disapproves of prosecution sanction against Arundhati Roy, ex-professor under UAPA
prosecution sanction against author Arundhati Roy and a former professor in Kashmir under the stringent UAPA for allegedly making provocative speeches at an event in Delhi in 2010. According to officials, the FIR against Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain was registered following the orders of the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi. Expressing disapproval of the move, the National Conference (NC) stressed the need to uphold the fundamental right of every citizen to free speech as guaranteed by Article 19 of the Constitution. «The NC expresses its strong disapproval of the prosecution of author Arundhati Roy and Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act). The use of anti-terror laws to suppress dissent and criminalize speech is deeply concerning,» it said in a post on 'X'.

Arundhati Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly making provocative speeches at an event in 2010, according to Raj Niwas officials. It was alleged that Roy, while delivering a speech at the conference, strongly propagated that Kashmir was never a part of India and was forcibly occupied by the Armed Forces of India. The FIR against Roy and Hussain was filed following orders from the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi. «Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of Arundhati Roy and former Professor of International Law in Central University of Kashmir, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, under section 45 (1) of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case,» a Raj Niwas official said.

Centre sets deadlines for healthcare initiatives
NEW DELHI:The union health ministry has set several deadlines for timely implementation of healthcare initiatives.These include an effective drug delivery supply chain management system at primary heathcare level by the end of this year, and National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification for at least 50% of public health facilities by December 2024 and 100% compliance by 2026.This follows a discussion held during the third National Conference of Chief Secretarieslast December on the theme of ‘promoting ease of living’.As part of the plan, the health ministry has identified several action points for its timely implementation.The Centre has directed states/UTs to complete Ayushman cards for the remaining 200 million beneficiariesby 31 December. Malaysia’s Gentari plans minority stake sale in C&I assets to raise around $400 million
NEW DELHI:New Delhi: Gentari Sdn Bhd, a unit of Malaysia’s state-run oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) that has been actively scouting for green energy assets in India, is now planning a minority fund raise in its proposed commercial and industrial (C&I) projects in an equity deal valued at around $400 million, two people aware of the development said.This will involve a stake sale of up to 49% in its 3.5 gigawatt (GW) assets that will supply electricity to a unit of AM Green, set up by Mahesh Kolli and Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, founders of Greenko Group. The unit will produce 5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of green ammonia that is equivalent to about 1 mtpa of green hydrogen.

Law minister Meghwal kicks off work on new national litigation policy
NEW DELHI:Law and justice minister Arjun Ram Meghwal began a review of the litigation system in India to collate stakeholder opinions and reduce pendency of government lawsuits under a new National Litigation Policy as his first task after taking office on Tuesday.He told the media the three new criminal laws would be enforced on 1 July as planned, and that his ministry would focus on arbitration to increase ease of doing business.Meghwal is one of five ministers of state with independent charge in Prime minister Narendra Modi's new Cabinet, and makes a comeback to the ministry of law and justice for his second stint.
