Supreme Court on Friday verbally observed that it could consider granting interim bail to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal due to the Lok Sabha elections. A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta made the oral observation after observing that the arguments on Kejriwal's plea, challenging his arrest in the Delhi excise scandal, may take time to conclude. The bench enquired about the date of polling in Delhi. «This may take time. But if the case takes time, we may consider the question of interim bail due to elections,» justice Khanna remarked orally. However he made it clear, repeatedly that the bench has not decided anything in this regard and was merely posing a query to the ED counsel to be answered on Tuesday.

She alleged that all the jewellery was misappropriated by the husband and his mother to discharge their pre-existing financial liabilities. The Family Court, in 2011, held that the husband and his mother had indeed misappropriated the appellant's gold jewellery and that she was entitled to recoup the loss caused to her by the said misappropriation.

ITC plans to open more hotels overseas with neighbouring countries and the Middle East as primary target markets after opening of its first international property here, company Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Puri said on Thursday. The company's arm ITC Hotels, which had opened 22 new properties in the last 24 months, plans to add another 70 hotels in the next five years in India as part of expansion plans in the hospitality sector. Besides the hotels business, the company will look for opportunities to expand the presence of FMCG and other verticals in new overseas markets as well. «We are open to exploring opportunities that come about. I think we have strong credentials in hospitality which we can take outside India now. Justice Datta questioned the counsel for one of the petitioners as to whether SC can issue directions regarding electronic voting machines (EVMs) «merely on the basis of suspicion» of hacking and manipulating though there is no concrete proof to prove the same. The petitioner raised doubts about whether EVMs are hack proof. The bench assembled on Wednesday to seek a slew of clarifications from the Election Commission of India on the technical functioning of EVMs, flash memory, VVPATs etc.

Manish Sisodia, in the Delhi excise policy case are making a conscious attempt to delay the trial. Opposing the bail plea of Sisodia, the counsel for ED contended that there has been no delay from the side of the prosecution. Rather, the accused have made deliberate and concerted attempts to delay the trial, the ED alleged. The agency further averred that 95 applications have been moved by 31 accused (before the court) in the case, including six applications by Sisodia. The ED's counsel alleged that majority of the applications moved by the accused are frivolous.
