Dalal Street welcomed Samvat 2080 in good spirits, as benchmark indices gained half a percentage points during the special Muhurat Trading session on Sunday. The 50-stock Nifty settled above the 19500-mark at 19525.55 points, up 100.20 points or 0.5% from the previous session. The 30-stock Sensex gained about 355 points or 0.5% to settle at 65259.45 points.

Coal India remained the largest gainer during during the mahurat trading session and its share price gained up to 4.1% . Coal India had reported a strong performance during September quarter with 9.85% increase in revenue and a 12.51% increase in profit year-over-year during the September quarter. Coal India on Friday reported a 12.5% year-on-year (YoY) rise in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended September 2023 to Rs 6,800 crore, which was way above an ETNow poll of Rs 5,990 crore. Consolidated revenue from operations rose nearly 10% on year to Rs 32,776.41 crore and was also above the estimated Rs 31,838 crore. The board has recommended an interim dividend of Rs 15.25 a share for the current financial year.

From a demand standpoint, the July-September quarter of FY24 was a mixed bag for the automobile industry led by year-on-year (YoY) expansion for PVs and CVs.

Coal India reported a 12% rise in its production so far in the current financial year (FY24) at 394 million tonne (MT) and said that its supplies to the power sector have grown 4.5% or 15 million tonne to 346 million tonne during the April-October period. Although Coal India and the Ministry of Coal have reported an increase in coal production in October, the Union Ministry of Power last week directed gencos to blend 6% imported coal till March next year amid fall inventory at thermal plants.

Coal India on Thursday reported a 12% rise in its output to 394 million tonne (MT) for FY24 so far, surpassing its annual growth target of 11%. PM Prasad, chairman and managing director, Coal India, expressed confidence in reaching the production target of 780 MT for the current fiscal. He highlighted the company's progress from its inception in 1975 with 79 MT to achieving 703 MT in FY23.
