Air India Express, the low-cost carrier owned by Tata Group, today cancelled several flights. The cancellations are reportedly due to a protest by some cabin crew members against alleged 'mismanagement at the airline'. As per a PTI report, the discontent among the cabin crew has been growing, especially since the beginning of the merger process with AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India. Union Concerns and Passenger Frustration A union representing a section of the Air India Express cabin crew has raised concerns about mismanagement and unequal treatment of staff. The Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU), which claims to represent around 300 cabin crew members, mostly seniors, has alleged that mismanagement has affected the morale of the employees.

EC has decided to hold only Lok Sabha elections — being held across the country in phases until June 1 — in the current poll cycle in the Union Territory. The Supreme Court earlier said Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections should be held by September. These were last held in 2014. «The final decision will be with EC, but we do want polls to take place,» said Singh. «The security situation is comfortable to hold elections. In terms of (security) data, I would say we are 95% there.»

PM Awas Yojana Update: The Centre is reportedly planning to widen the scope and size of its flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Now shopkeepers, traders and self-employed will also be brought under the ambit of the scheme, part of the ‘Housing for All’ mission of the central government, CNBC-TV18 reported citing sources.

The new tax regime was introduced by the Finance Minister in the Union Budget 2020. This regime, also known as the simplified tax regime, offers lower tax rates with fewer deductions and exemptions, compared to the old tax regime. The income tax provisions allow an individual to choose either of the two regimes. The choice can be made every year except where an individual has a business or a profession.

Army personnel were injured in an ongoing encounter in Bandipora area of north Kashmir on Wednesday. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an uptick in such incidents since the beginning of the Lok Sabha elections. This is the second encounter in Kashmir valley in less than two weeks. J&K Police said that a contact was established between militants and armed forces on Wednesday morning in Renji forest area of Bandipora's Aragam village and the search operation is going on. Officials said «two army troopers received bullet wounds during the initial exchange of fire with terrorists and both are stable». The armed forces have pressed helicopters and drones in service for surveillance of the forest area to prevent militants from fleeing. No casualty has been reported from either side, so far.

Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda triggered a row after he advocated the concept of inheritance tax prevailing in the US. BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticised Pitroda's comment and said the Congress will continue to loot people even after their death.

Modi on Wednesday attacked the Congress over its Pitroda's «inheritance tax» remark, saying the grand old party's «dangerous intentions» of snatching away the assets and rights of people have come to the fore. In a post on X, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the Congress has no plan whatsoever to introduce an inheritance tax. In fact, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had abolished Estate Duty in 1985, he said, adding that it is the Modi government that has wanted to do so.
