Many Kashmiri Pandit organisations decide to refrain from electoral process over 'genocide denial'
Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir draws near, several organisations of the Kashmiri Pandit community has decided to refrain from the electoral process in the Union Territory over «persistent denial of their genocide». The decision to abstain from the polling was taken at Kashmiri pandit citizens meet held here in the light of the Assembly elections scheduled to take place in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The event, attended by a significant number of Kashmiri Pandit leaders, focused on the ethical and political dilemma of participating in an election that «continues to disregard the community's demand for recognition of their genocide» and the resultant «forced exodus» from their homeland. «For decades now, we have been a community in exile, watching as successive governments and political parties utilise our exodus and our suffering as talking points during elections. Yet, when it comes to addressing our demands for justice — recognising our genocide, facilitating our return to our homeland with dignity, and restoring our rights — we are met with silence.

Jammu and Kashmir elections: CM to have no power, I won't contest, says Mehbooba Mufti
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said she won't contest the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections as an assembly in the Union Territory is extremely weak to implement any significant decisions. Mufti said that if she won't be able to release a prisoner or revoke an FIR on her own, what use was being a chief minister in such a region. «I have been a chief minister of a government with the BJP which revoked FIRs against 12,000 persons. Can we do that now? I, as the CM of a government with (PM) Modi, wrote a letter to separatists to invite them for talks. Can you do that today? I got a ceasefire (implemented) on ground. Can you do that today? If you cannot take back an FIR as CM, what does one do with such a post?» Mufti told reporters here.
