Israel drops leaflets over Gaza showing Sinwar's body and message to Hamas
Gaza on Saturday showing a picture of the dead Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar with the message that «Hamas will no longer rule Gaza», echoing language used by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The move came as Israeli military strikes killed at least 32 people across the Gaza Strip and tightened a siege around hospitals in Jabalia in the north of the enclave, Palestinian health officials said. «Whoever drops the weapon and hands over the hostages will be allowed to leave and live in peace,» the leaflet, written in Arabic, read, according to residents of the southern city of Khan Younis and images circulating online.

Meet the tribe that still mummifies its dead and here's how they do it
Papua New Guinea, there is a tribal community that still keeps the tradition alive. The Anga tribe practices the mummification of their deceased ancestors as a way to stay connected with them. The Anga people, who number around 45,000, use a distinct method of mummification that involves smoking the body for three months. Unlike the ancient Egyptian technique, the body remains seated and is positioned over a fire. During the process, the mummifiers carefully drain the body’s fluids by poking it and use a wooden stick to widen the anus, allowing the organs to exit. The procedure is highly meticulous, with every detail attended to in order to avoid any mistakes that might bring ill omens. The dead body is then coated with red clay for preservation and placed in jungle shrines.

Anxiety over next phase of Israel-Iran escalation: Potential implications on energy, fertiliser prices, shipping, even US prez polls
fertiliser prices, shipping through the Straits of Hormuz in addition to the current disruptions in the Red Sea, the peace and tranquillity in the Gulf and West Asia, and even the US presidential elections. The conflict has seen a step-bystep escalation, starting with the Hamas attack of October 7 last year. Israel, in response, has continued with its air and ground operations in Gaza. More than 40,000 have died from this action, nearly two million displaced and property and infrastructure severely damaged. The population there is suffering from food shortages and break down of health care. Intense multi-country efforts for ceasefire, led by the US, Egypt and Qatar, have floundered, buffeted by Israeli desire for a permanent end or irreplaceable degradation of Hamas military and governance structures, and countervailing Hamas’ demands for the ceasefire to be ‘permanent’. Around 100 Israelis remain hostages since October 7with no clarity on how many may still be alive. Anger against Israel and criticism of its actions in many countries has only grown.

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi this year will be observed from the evening of September 15 to the evening of September 16. US releases $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt
US State Department said Thursday it was unconditionally releasing $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt, at a time when Cairo and Washington have been working closely on a Gaza ceasefire deal. Last year, the United States had made the release of part of this annual aid conditional on progress being made on respecting human rights in Egypt, a country where ruler Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been accused of suppressing dissent. This year, however, the State Department said Egypt had made «progress» in certain areas of human rights. It also explicitly mentioned Cairo's help in mediating between Israel and Palestinian armed group Hamas on the war in Gaza.

Why G7? Jaishankar asks when questioned about the need for BRICS
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday dismissed the argument that there was no need for «another club» called the BRICS, and said he was struck by the «insecurity» in the developed world over the grouping. During a conversation with Ambassador Jean-David Levitte at Global Centre for Security Policy, a think tank, here, Jaishankar said if the G7 can exist when there is the G20, there is no reason why BRICS cannot. Accounting for 27 per cent of global GDP, BRICS was founded by Brazil, Russia, India and China; later South Africa joined it, and in January 2024, five new countries — Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Ethiopia --joined the bloc. «Why the club? Because there was another club! It was called the G7 and you will not let anybody else into that club. So, we go and form our own club,» Jaishankar told to a loud cheer from the audience.

America is losing the battle of the Red Sea
Iran launched perhaps the largest drone and missile strike in history against Israel, which was blunted by unprecedented cooperation from countries in the region and beyond. Yet the biggest surprise is also the most ominous for global order. A radical, quasi-state actor most Americans had never heard of, the Houthis of Yemen, have mounted the gravest challenge to freedom of the seas in decades — and arguably beaten a weary superpower along the way. The Houthis began their campaign against shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb, which connects the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, in late 2023. They are nominally attacking out of sympathy for the Palestinian people, but also to gain stature within the so-called Axis of Resistance, a group of Middle Eastern proxies cultivated by Iran.
