UN human rights body calls for halt to weapons shipments to Israel as concerns about Gaza war mount
Israel in a resolution passed Friday that aims to help prevent rights violations against Palestinians amid Israel's blistering military campaign in Gaza. The 47-member-country Human Rights Council voted 28-6 in favor of the resolution, with 13 abstentions. The sweeping measure takes aim at an array of Israeli actions such as impeding access to water and limiting shipments of humanitarian aid into Palestinian areas. It also calls on U.N.-backed independent investigators to report on shipments of weapons, munitions and «dual use» items — that have both civilian and military applications — that could be used by Israel against Palestinians.

Dialogue must remain open with Russia, Italy defence minister says
Russia must remain open despite its attack on Ukraine, Italy's defence minister said on Friday, commenting on recent talks between his French and Russian counterparts. On Wednesday, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu had a phone conversation with Russia's Sergei Shoigu — the first since October 2022 — during the course of which France condemned Russia's «war of aggression» in Ukraine. France later denied Russian claims that it expressed willingness to hold dialogue on Ukraine or discuss possible peace negotiations when the two countries' defence ministers spoke on Wednesday.

PSG coach Enrique being proved right as he stands firm in an era of player power
Mbappe could find himself on the bench again when runaway French league leader Paris Saint-Germain faces rock-bottom Clermont on Saturday. Mbappe is the league top scorer with 24 goals and Clermont has the second-worst defense of the 18 top-flight teams with 46 conceded. It is a golden opportunity for Mbappe, PSG's all-time leading scorer with 251 goals, to add to his tally. But PSG coach Luis Enrique does not think that way. His priority is next week's showdown against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at Parc des Princes.
