Israel in a resolution passed Friday that aims to help prevent rights violations against Palestinians amid Israel's blistering military campaign in Gaza. The 47-member-country Human Rights Council voted 28-6 in favor of the resolution, with 13 abstentions. The sweeping measure takes aim at an array of Israeli actions such as impeding access to water and limiting shipments of humanitarian aid into Palestinian areas. It also calls on U.N.-backed independent investigators to report on shipments of weapons, munitions and «dual use» items — that have both civilian and military applications — that could be used by Israel against Palestinians.

Coubertin, the controversial founder of the modern Olympic Games, will have his own wax figure in Paris, the Grevin Museum has announced in the run-up to the sporting extravaganza. The wax likeness of the French baron, who was born in Paris in 1863, will be unveiled at the famed museum in July, before the start of the Olympic Games on July 26. The figure is being produced in the museum's workshops in the French capital's 13th district.

United Nations, India on Friday abstained in the UN Human Rights Council on a resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and also demanded that Israel immediately lift its illegal blockade on the strip. The draft resolution on the 'Human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice' was adopted by the Geneva-based Council with a vote of 28 in favour, 6 against and 13 abstentions. India abstained on the resolution, along with France, Japan, Netherlands, and Romania among others. Those voting against the resolution included Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany and the US.

Russia must remain open despite its attack on Ukraine, Italy's defence minister said on Friday, commenting on recent talks between his French and Russian counterparts. On Wednesday, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu had a phone conversation with Russia's Sergei Shoigu — the first since October 2022 — during the course of which France condemned Russia's «war of aggression» in Ukraine. France later denied Russian claims that it expressed willingness to hold dialogue on Ukraine or discuss possible peace negotiations when the two countries' defence ministers spoke on Wednesday.

Sanofi on Friday said it has obtained approval for IMOVAX-Polio, an alternative injectable vaccine, to replace the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) ShanIP in India. IMOVAX-Polio is an alternative IPV vaccine that has been used in more than 100 countries for over 40 years, a Sanofi India spokesperson told PTI. The vaccine has the same composition/formulation as ShanIPV, the spokesperson added. «We wish to assure all stakeholders that there will be no shortage of IPV vaccines in India on our account, towards safeguarding the nation's status of remaining polio-free. We remain fully committed to fulfilling our public health mission in India,» the spokesperson noted.

Radisson Hotel Group currently has a hotel at every four hours of driving distance in India. The global hospitality chain targets to have a property at every two hours of driving distance, a senior official said. Radisson signed 21 new hotels in India last year, including signings for locations such as Jhansi and Sonipat. It now plans to sign about 30 hotels every year in the country for the next five years, said Elie Younes, executive vice president and global chief development officer at Radisson Hotel Group.
