Germany desperately needs more workers; and it has new measures that favour India
Germany is focusing on attracting skilled workers from India, following new migration measures recently approved by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Cabinet. The move aims to streamline immigration processes and support the integration of Indian workers, addressing the critical workforce gaps caused by an ageing population. Germany, known for having the strongest economy in the European Union, faces increasing pressure to secure skilled labour to maintain economic momentum. Hubertus Heil, the German Labour Minister, emphasized India’s importance, saying, «Germany views India as an especially important partner when it comes to the issue of skilled labour migration.» The newly approved migration framework underscores the deepening economic relationship between Germany and India. With a focus on long-term economic sustainability, the German government aims to attract qualified Indian professionals across various sectors to address workforce gaps.

The sources in the know told PTI that the bomb threat was classified as «non-specific» and it was decided that the flight will continue its journey to Frankfurt. However, the Afghanistan authorities did not give permission to overfly its airspace since there was a bomb threat, the sources added.

Meta watchdog raises 'serious questions' on anti-immigrant posts
Meta's independent content watchdog said Thursday there were «serious questions» about how the social media giant deals with anti-immigrant content, particularly in Europe. The Oversight Board, established by Meta in 2020 and often called its «supreme court», launched a probe after seeing a «significant number» of appeals over anti-immigrant content. The board has chosen two symbolic cases-one from Germany and the other from Poland-to assess whether Meta is following human rights law and its own policies on hate speech.

China employs hackers and celebrities to undermine Taiwan
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. As Beijing dispatched its military Monday in a show of force that encircled Taiwan, China’s coast guard posted a map showing its ships ringing the island in a heart-shaped formation, describing it as “an act of love." To Taiwan, the social-media message was just one piece of China’s multifaceted campaign to intimidate, isolate and influence the people and leaders of the island democracy to give up their commitment to self-rule. Alongside its most high-profile tactic—sending a message of military dominance—China is employing what Taiwan says is an expanding army of hackers, diplomats, prosecutors and celebrities in its effort to persuade Taiwan to submit to Beijing.
