Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have bought Indian equities worth Rs 30,772 crore so far in July, continuing their shopping spree. The total investments by them stand at Rs 33,973 crore in 2024 so far. In June, the FPIs had bought Indian shares worth Rs 26,565 crore after remaining net sellers in April and May when they sold equities worth Rs 8,671 crore and Rs 25,586 crore, respectively. In February and March too they were net buyers at Rs 1,539 crore and Rs 35,098 crore, respectively, after starting the year on a negative note in January, when they offloaded shares worth Rs 25,744 crore.

The results, initially announced on June 5, were re-released in this format due to ongoing Supreme Court hearings regarding alleged irregularities in the exam, including concerns about a possible paper leak. The NEET-UG exam, held on May 5, was administered at 4,750 centres across 571 cities, including 14 international locations, with over 24 lakh candidates participating. The Supreme Court had ordered that the results be published with masked identities to determine if candidates from centres under scrutiny scored differently compared to those from other locations. The mutual fund industry is demanding capital gains tax on the units of debt mutual funds held for more than 3 years to be taxed at 10% without indexation, as applicable in respect of Long Term Capital Gains Tax (LTCG) from debentures. The demand has been raised by industry body Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), which in its proposal sent to the Ministry of Finance has said that it was «logical» to do so as this could encourage retail investor participation in bond markets. «We request for an amendment to Finance Act, 2023 and consider the mutual fund units as securities, with long-term capital tax rate thereon should be according to / in line with the capital gains tax on bonds, debentures, SDL and G-secs etc,» the Amfi budget proposal document said.
