However, among the economically developing countries, India was found to be the third biggest contributor with close to three per cent share in global CO2 emissions from aviation, following China at 14 per cent and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at more than three per cent. The research team at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology also found that India's share in global CO2 emissions from domestic aviation was the third highest at 1.5 per cent.

Quality concerns may threaten over half of India’s spice exports: GTRI
GTRI) Wednesday said that nearly $700 million worth of India’s spice exports to critical markets are at stake due to cascading regulatory actions in many countries, as concerns are being raised about the quality of Indian spices. It cautioned that if the EU follows suit with a rejection across the bloc, it could impact an additional $2.5 billion of India’s spice exports. The US, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Malé have raised questions on the quality of spices supplied by leading Indian firms MDH and Everest. India exported spices worth $692.5 million to these countries in FY24. “This issue demands urgent attention and action to uphold the storied reputation of India’s fabled spice garden,” it said, adding that so far the response from Indian authorities has been tepid and formulaic.

Indian auto market sees 2% rise in vehicle sales; SUVs continue to dominate
Automakers had sold 332,468 passenger vehicles a year ago in April 2023. Car sales had grown by 9.5% to 368,086 units a month before in March 2024. But even while the growth rate moderated last month, on a high base, in terms of absolute volumes April was the 16th straight month that automakers in the local market clocked best-ever monthly sales. Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer (marketing and sales) at the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki said, “We have started this year on a high base. Compared to last year when supplies were disrupted due to the semi-conductor crisis, there is more stock in the network now. There is also some uncertainty due to the ongoing elections. Once the new government is formed, and policies are announced, there will be more certainty in the market. But overall, car sales are expected to grow in single-digits in FY25.”
