TCS wasn't kidding when it ordered staff back to office
Tata Consultancy Services are discovering the hard way, after receiving lower pay hikes than their colleagues who dutifully turn up at their desks. TCS assessed office attendance, among other metrics, before rolling out annual wage hikes to over 600,000 employees earlier this week, five employees at India's largest private sector employer said. This also makes TCS potentially the first to use office check-in as one of the metrics to determine pay hikes.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) looks to set pace in the three North Bengal constituencies, BJP looks to retain their base and extend their tally of 18 seats out of the state's 42 constituencies. Notably, TMC had managed to wriggle the three constituencies out of BJP clutch for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections, therefore making tomorrow's voting a litmus test for the two parties who have meticulously made their presence felt through innumerable pre-poll rallies. The issues of North Bengal identity politics and of the tea belt are expected to dominate the political discourse.

Good market access offered on both sides, says UK on India FTA talks
UK government has said as Indian negotiators are in London this week to continue discussions with their British counterparts. During a debate in the House of Lords this week, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron was addressing questions from British peers on the current state of freedom of religion or belief in India. The recent restructuring of the BBC to create a new Indian-owned entity in order to comply with the country's foreign direct investment (FDI) rules was flagged by Liberal Democrat peer Lord Jeremy Purvis, who questioned the level of market access being offered to India in the field of media, data and telecoms as part of the FTA negotiations. «My understanding of where we are with the trade deal is that good market access has been offered on both sides, but not quite enough yet to secure a deal. It is important with such trade deals, as you only really get one proper shot at it, to make sure that it is a good enough deal that will be welcomed by industry leaders here in the UK as offering real market access,» said Lord Cameron.

Lok Sabha election: Stage set for close contest in western Uttar Pradesh
western Uttar Pradesh’s eight districts – the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the opposition INDIA bloc and the BSP. All three face challenges in this region owing to the sizable presence of Muslims, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and other backward classes (OBCs) across the eight Lok Sabha seats – Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (SC), Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit – which will go to the polls in the first phase on April 19. In the 2019 general election, the then SP-BSP-RLD alliance put up a good show and the rival BJP camp could win only three seats – Muzaffarnagar, Kairana and Pilibhit. Five years later, the political situation has changed considerably with the BSP’s decision to go solo. The RLD, a significant player in this region, is now part of the NDA.
