The EC warning came days after Kumar had triggered a row by posting his picture with actor Thomas, who is an ambassador for the Election Commission's Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP), on social media. The actor had himself posted on social media, saying he was an ambassador for SVEEP and that it was against law to use his photograph for election campaign. Seizing the opportunity, the BJP-led NDA early this week filed a complaint with the district Collector, who is also the returning officer for the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, against the Left candidate for allegedly violating the poll code.

Arbitration is the preferred method of dispute resolution over litigation in the country because of the speed of resolution, confidentiality and cost effectiveness but there is still scope for improvement, a survey has found. Conducted by law firm Khaitan & Co, the survey, which focused on the experience of parties rather than advocates and experts involved in domestic arbitration in the country, asserted that most arbitrations take 24 to 36 months to complete while a majority wanted the exercise to be over within 12 months. According to a press release, a large majority of those covered under the survey 'Current Trends in Domestic Arbitration in India', said they intended to use domestic arbitration in the future for both small and large disputes. «Arbitration is the preferred method of dispute resolution over litigation because of the speed of resolution, confidentiality, cost effectiveness, and process with speed of resolution being the most important. Most arbitrations are taking 24 to 36 months to complete instead of 12 months, which is what parties expect,» according to the findings shared in the release.

FIVE Remark Election Trade donates BJD got Rs 944.5 cr donations through electoral bonds in six years; Congress seeks clarification
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has received Rs 944.5 crore through electoral bonds over the last six years from 2018-19 to 2023-24 (up to September). Data submitted by the BJD to the Election Commission, now available on the ECI website, reveals the breakdown of these donations. In the initial three years, the party received Rs 213.5 crore in 2018-19, Rs 50.5 crore in 2019-20, and Rs 67 crore in 2020-21. Subsequently, there was a significant increase, with the following three years contributing over Rs 613 crore. The highest amount was recorded in 2021-22, reaching Rs 291 crore, followed by Rs 170.50 crore in 2023-24 (up to September) and Rs 152 crore in 2022-23.

The NDA is likely to retain power at the Centre in the upcoming polls. If the NDA government takes steps, which are against the interest of the religious minorities, including Mizo Christians, I shall oppose it vociferously both within and outside Parliament,» the 54-year-old MNF leader said. However, Vanlalvena commended the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for its contributions to economic development in the country.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said the state government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a direction to the Centre to immediately release grants under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the state, which is reeling under acute drought. Accusing the Centre of sitting on Karnataka's pleas for release of funds though there is a severe drought, he said the state government was compelled to approach the apex court. «Today the Karnataka government filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the Centre after waiting for five months. Since there is vacation for a week in the Supreme Court, we did not get the endorsement. We expect it next week,» Siddaramaiah told reporters here. The petition was filed under Article 32 of the Indian Constitution to give directions to the Government of India to release NDR Funds immediately, which was supposed to be released by the Centre according to law, he explained.
