Cash-discovery row: Delhi HC CJ's report, police video prompt CJI to set up in-house inquiry panel
Yashwant Varma's residence and preliminary findings of the Delhi High Court chief justice calling for a «deeper probe» have prompted Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to constitute a committee to conduct an in-house inquiry into the allegations against the judge. In an unprecedented move, the top court, late on Saturday evening, uploaded on its website the inquiry report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya — complete with photos and videos — regarding the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash from the residence of Justice Varma, a judge in the high court. Justice Upadhyaya's report to the CJI contains material with regard to official communication that says four to five semi-burnt sacks of Indian currency notes were found from the judge's Lutyens' Delhi residence. «On examining the incident reported, the material available and the response of Justice Yashwant Varma, what I find is that the Commissioner of Police in his report dated March 16, 2025 has reported that as per the guard posted at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, the debris and other partially-burnt articles were removed from the room where the fire had broken out in the morning of March 15, 2025… »Accordingly, I am of the prima facie opinion that the entire matter warrants a deeper probe," Justice Upadhyaya has said said in his report dated March 21 and made public on Saturday evening.

For me, journalism died that day!” he wrote. For those unfamiliar with the case, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered lifeless in his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra locality on June 14, 2020. The 34-year-old was found hanging from the ceiling, leading to widespread shock and speculation.

India imports 8.47 lakh tons of DAP fertiliser from China by Februay
India has imported 8.47 lakh tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from China till February in the current fiscal year, government data showed. The Chinese imports represent 19.17 per cent of India's total DAP imports of 44.19 lakh tonnes during the period. In the previous fiscal year, China accounted for 22.28 lakh tonnes, or about 40 per cent, of India's overall DAP imports of 55.67 lakh tonnes. DAP is the second most widely used fertiliser in India after urea. The country also imports DAP from Russia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Jordan, both as finished fertiliser and raw materials such as rock phosphate and intermediate chemicals. For the ongoing rabi season, domestic availability of DAP fertilisers has exceeded the estimated requirement of 52 lakh tonnes, with 48 lakh tonnes already sold. As of March 11, India maintained a closing DAP stock of 9.43 lakh tonnes. Domestic production of DAP and complex fertilisers has been constrained by several factors, including marketing limitations, high finished goods inventory and insufficient manpower.

India slips to sixth rank among emerging market peers in Feb as stocks, rupee tumble
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. India slipped by three ranks to the sixth position in the Mint’s Emerging Markets Tracker in February as stock market rout, sharp depreciation in rupee and a slump in exports overshadowed strong GDP growth and Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI). On the other hand, Brazil claimed the top rank for the first time since November 2023, as it outshone all other emerging markets in its currency performance and performed second-best in stock market capitalization.

Young India: Fuelled by agency but failed by structure

India's traditional beverage Goli Soda sees strong demand in US, Europe, Gulf
Goli Soda is witnessing strong consumer response in key international markets, including the US, UK, Europe, and the Gulf, driven by strategic expansion and innovative reinvention, an official statement said on Sunday. Under a strategic partnership with Fair Exports, India has ensured steady deliveries of Goli Soda, rebranded as Goli Pop Soda, to Lulu Hypermarket, one of the largest retail chains in the Gulf region, the commerce ministry's arm Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said. «This iconic beverage, once a household staple, is making a remarkable comeback on the global stage, driven by its innovative reinvention and strategic international expansion,» it said, adding the product has already made strong inroads in global markets, with successful trial shipments to the USA, UK, Europe, and Gulf countries. The revival of this beverage, which had nearly disappeared due to the dominance of multinational beverage companies, marks a significant milestone in India's efforts to promote and export authentic, homegrown food and beverage products in the global markets, it said.

Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants aim for strong IPL start under new leadership
Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, under new captains, will be eager to make a strong start to their IPL campaign when they face off here on Monday. For a second year running, the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium will host two home matches for Delhi Capitals. Pant, who had been a Delhi Capitals' player throughout his IPL career and also their captain, left the franchise ahead of the mega auction last year and was snapped up by LSG for a record price of Rs 27 crore. While his pay cheque will keep the Indian wicketkeeper-batter in limelight through the course of this season, it will also present Pant an opportunity to make a strong case for himself in the white-ball formats as he didn't get a game during the recent Champions Trophy. On the other hand, KL Rahul, who led LSG for two years since their IPL debut, has switched to Delhi Capitals, where he would be a vital cog in their plans, not as a leader but as a key batting mainstay, with Indian all-rounder Axar Patel being appointed captain. Like Mumbai Indians, DC too were spoilt for choices when it came to picking their captain as they also have Faf du Plessis apart from Rahul but the franchise opted for all-round Patel, whose career graph has been on a rise.

India imposes anti-dumping duty on 4 Chinese products
vacuum flasks and aluminium foil, during the month so far to guard domestic players from cheap imports from the neighbouring country. These duties were imposed as these products — Soft Ferrite Cores, certain thickness of vacuum insulated flask, aluminium foil, and Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid — were exported to India from China at below normal prices. The anti-dumping duty of up to USD 873 per tonne was imposed provisionally on aluminium foil for six months. The government has imposed the duty in the range of USD 276 per tonne to USD USD 986 per tonne on imports of the acid (a water treatment chemical) from China and Japan. IndusInd taps Grant Thornton for fraud checks in accounting case, sources say
IndusInd Bank has appointed Grant Thornton to conduct a forensic review into accounting lapses detected this month and to check if there is any evidence of fraud or internal misstatements, said two people with direct knowledge of the matter. IndusInd is India's fifth-largest private lender with a balance sheet of $63 billion. Its shares have lost about 23.4% since it disclosed on March 10 that its derivatives portfolio was overvalued by around 2.35%, or $175 million, after non-compliant internal trades. The accounting discrepancy contravened Reserve Bank of India rules, though the central bank has said IndusInd is well-capitalised.

Chennai Weather Forecast: Will rain play spoilsport in today's MI vs CSK IPL clash?
Chennai Super Kings will lean on their formidable spin strength under favourable conditions at the Chepauk as well as recent record against Mumbai Indians when the two sides face each other in their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign opener here on Sunday. Five-time winners CSK augmented their spin attack in the IPL mega auction last year by including Ravichandran Ashwin, Noor Ahmad Shreyas Gopal and Deepak Hooda, with India veteran Ravindra Jadeja also in the mix. CSK's pre-season moves indicate how the spin-friendly conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here could be a major factor in their game plan. Starting their season against an equally formidable opponent in Mumbai Indians, this strategy could well deliver the goods right from the beginning. For CSK, MS Dhoni will be the cynosure of all eyes once again, having remained with the team since the inception of the IPL in 2008. On the other hand, the absence of India bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could be acutely felt in the MI ranks as the right-arm pacer remains on a comeback trail from a back-related issue which has kept him sidelined so far this year. Bumrah is expected to miss the initial stages of this IPL and his absence will leave MI without their lethal weapon in the death overs, presenting the management with a headache to work with other options and strategies.

The US lifts bounties on senior Taliban officials, including Sirajuddin Haqqani, says Kabul
Sirajuddin Haqqani, who acknowledged planning a January 2008 attack on the Serena Hotel in Kabul, which killed six people, including US citizen Thor David Hesla, no longer appears on the State Department's Rewards for Justice website. The FBI website on Sunday still featured a wanted poster for him. Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani said the U.S. government had revoked the bounties placed on Haqqani, Abdul Aziz Haqqani, and Yahya Haqqani. «These three individuals are two brothers and one paternal cousin,» Qani told the Associated Press. The Haqqani network grew into one of the deadliest arms of the Taliban after the U.S.-led 2001 invasion of Afghanistan.
