Govt amends guidelines for disposal of enemy properties
Centre has amended the guidelines for disposal of the enemy property worth below Rs 1 crore located in rural areas and such property valued below Rs 5 crore in urban areas. Assets left behind by people who have taken citizenship of Pakistan and China — mostly between 1947 and 1962 — are called enemy property. In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said while disposing of the enemy property valued below Rs 1 crore in a rural area and valued below Rs 5 crore in an urban area, the custodian shall offer of purchase to the occupant first and if the occupant refuses the offer of purchase, then the enemy property shall be disposed of in accordance with already laid down norms i.e. by inviting tender or by holding public action. The home ministry also clarified that the 'rural area' means any area in a state except those areas covered by any urban local body or a Cantonment Board. Similarly, an 'urban area' means any area within the limits of a municipal corporation or municipality, or the central government may, having regard to the population, concentration of industries, need for proper planning of the area and other relevant factors, by general or special order, declare to be an urban area.

India-Canada row may throw a spanner in travel works of many
Travel industry insiders, immigration and visa consultants fear the worsening diplomatic row between India and Canada could lead to increased scrutiny and security checks for Indian nationals besides longer processing times for visa applications, affecting those seeking to travel for work, study, or tourism. The row could also lead to subdued overseas tourist arrivals from Canada over time. Rahul Singh, managing partner at relocation and immigration firm Kraft Mobility said the visa situation for Indian nationals looking to travel to Canada has been influenced by the broader diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Supreme Court upholds Section 6A of Citizenship Act; Assam's cut-off date debate continues
Guwahati: The dilemma of cut of date continued to linger in Assam for several decades, while the Supreme court on Thursday upheld validity of Section 6A of Citizenship Act which conferred citizenship benefits to persons from Bangladesh who settled in Assam and had entered India between January 1966 and March 25, 1971, there are documents and recommendations which stipulates 1951 as the cut of date for identification of foreigners. The All Assam Students Union (AASU), which spearheaded a six-year-long agitation against illegal immigrants in Assam in 1979-85, welcomed the Supreme Court judgment upholding the validity of Section 6A of Citizenship Act. AASU's chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya said with its order on Section 6A of Citizenship Act 1955, the Supreme Court has given its stamp of approval to the Assam Accord under which all those who had entered Assam illegally must be detected and deported from the country. «We wholeheartedly welcome the Supreme Court verdict. It is a historic verdict. It has established that the Assam agitation was undertaken with genuine reasons and all provisions of the Assam Accord are now legally validated by the apex court.”
