Kangana Ranaut's movie Emergency gets censor certificate; release date soon
The CBFC's clearance comes after some back-and-forth between the filmmakers and the board. Co-produced by Zee Entertainment, the production had agreed to make several cuts suggested by the censor board, ending a prolonged period of uncertainty regarding its release. Kangana Ranaut, who directed and co-produced the film, expressed her relief on social media, tweeting: «We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support.» The film, initially slated for release on September 6, faced delays after objections were raised by Sikh organizations, particularly the Shiromani Akali Dal, which argued that the film misrepresented certain historical facts. This led to a temporary stall in the release of the film's trailer, adding to the challenges the production had already faced.

How modern technologies shaping India’s journey towards clean energy transition
net zero by 2070 is driven by its unwavering commitment to mitigate climate change, reduce carbon emissions and sustainable development. For a growing economy with a population of over 1.4 billion that is heavily dependent on fossil fuel, achieving this target seems like a formidable task for the country. However, in the past few years, India’s journey to become a global leader in clean energy has been marked by remarkable technological evolution and initiatives. By investing in renewable energy sources, and enhancing energy efficiency, the country has surpassed several developed countries to establish itself as the third largest producer of renewable energy, with 40% of its installed electricity generated from non-fossil fuel sources in 2021 itself. Some of the innovative technologies paving India’s journey towards clean energy transition are: Solar and Wind Power Nine years after the Paris Climate Agreement (COP 21) 2015, India has made significant progress in strengthening its solar and wind power capacity as a means to transition to a clean and sustainable energy future. Based on the report by the Central Energy Authority (CEA), the contribution of solar and wind to India’s energy mix has increased to 26 per cent in March 2023 from 9 per cent recorded at the end of 2011-12.

Marital rape: Will decide constitutional validity of laws granting immunity to husbands, says SC
Supreme Court on Thursday said it will decide the constitutional validity of penal provisions in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which grant immunity from prosecution to a husband for the offence of rape if he forces his wife, who is not a minor, to have sex with him. A bench of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra sought views of the petitioners on Centre's contention that making such acts punishable would severely impact the conjugal relationship and cause serious disturbances in the institution of marriage. Senior advocate Karuna Nundy, appearing for one of the petitioners, opened the arguments and referred to the provisions of the IPC and BNS on marital rape. «It is a constitutional question. There are two judgments before us and we have to decide. The core issue is of the constitutional validity (of the penal provisions),» the CJI said.

Rationality of Assam Accord re-established: AASU after SC verdict
Assam Accord of 1985, on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court judgement regarding the pact's cut-off date and said it re-established the «rationality» of the historic agreement. Hours after the apex court pronounced its judgement, AASU welcomed the verdict and said it is the victory of the struggling people of Assam who have stood selflessly in favour of the Assam Accord for the past four decades. In a majority verdict, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act which grants Indian citizenship to immigrants who came to Assam between January 1, 1966 and March 25, 1971. A five-judge Constitution Bench, headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, said the Assam Accord was a political solution to the problem of illegal migration.
