Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for urban mobility. The electric flying taxis are expected to cut down travel time and reduce vehicular pollution in Bengaluru, a city often plagued by long traffic delays, especially during the rainy season.
Sarla Aviation's seven-seater electric flying taxis are expected to reduce travel time significantly. One of the proposed routes is between Bengaluru Airport and Electronics City, a 52-kilometer stretch that could be covered in just 19 minutes, compared to the current travel time of nearly three hours during rush hour. The fare for this service is expected to be Rs 1,700.
«We aim to redefine urban air transport with operational efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and scalable infrastructure. Our electric flying taxis will set new benchmarks in reliability and performance, aligning with global standards for sustainable aviation,» Co-founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation, Adrian Schmidt, told PTI.
Sarla Aviation plans to initially focus on four of India’s most congested cities: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune. The company aims to make electric aerial taxis affordable and accessible to the public.
While the plans are promising, the electric flying taxi service in Bengaluru is still awaiting regulatory approval and could take up to three years to become fully operational. Sarla
