CC1'an individual named in connection with the alleged assassination plot of US-based Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is no longer an employee of the Indian government.
On Thursday, the US State Department described a meeting with the Indian Inquiry Committee as «productive,» highlighting India's cooperation in the ongoing investigation. US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed satisfaction with the collaboration.
Miller stated, «It was a productive meeting. They did inform us that the individual who was named in the Justice Department indictment is no longer an employee of the Indian government. We are satisfied with the cooperation. It continues to be an ongoing process. We continue to work with them on that, but we do appreciate the cooperation and we appreciate them updating us on their investigation as we update them on ours.»
The US previously alleged that Nikhil Gupta, in association with an Indian government employee, was involved in planning Pannun's assassination in New York City. Gupta, extradited from the Czech Republic to the US in June, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Indian Inquiry Committee visited the US to investigate the reported involvement of an Indian official in the foiled plot. Pannun, an India-designated terrorist, holds American and Canadian citizenship.
