Vir Das fires back at critic accusing him and Diljit Dosanjh of damaging India’s soft power: ‘I love conspiracy nuts’
In a post, Tanna questioned the sudden rise of Vir Das and Diljit Dosanjh, writing, «Have you ever wondered why two very, very mediocre artists—Diljit Dosanjh and Vir Das—have suddenly been propped up to global scale fame? They’re suddenly benefiting from liaisons with top celebrities and getting gigs at top global events.» Tanna also mentioned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attending one of Diljit’s concerts, calling him a «guy from Punjab» and suggesting that this was part of an agenda to undermine India’s global standing.

DGCA bars low visibility landings in Boeing 737 planes due to defect in rudder control
DGCA) has asked airlines with Boeing 737 planes not to do landings in less than 150 feet and to conduct training for their pilots for a scenario where the rudder is jammed, restricting its control. This is after the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB), the accident investigator of the US, issued an urgent safety alert last week for a potential rudder failure in the 737 aircraft. The incident was discovered after a United Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 experienced “stuck” rudder pedals while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in February. DGCA’s advisory will not immediately impact any airline as low visibility conditions with visual range as low as 150 feet is not prevailing in the country, say experts. However, if the issue is not sorted before the foggy days of December, airlines may face challenges with some of their planes barred from operating from the Delhi Airport.

Parl panel likely to take up issue of poor treatment of Indians working abroad
parliamentary committee headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is likely to look into the issue covering the condition of people going overseas for work. Sources said the Standing Committee on External Affairs in its first meeting on Monday discussed its agenda, and this issue came up for discussion. They said MPs expressed concern over the issue, with a seasoned parliamentarian referring to the recent case of some Indians being forced to work for the Russian military in its war against Ukraine after they arrived there on the promise of employment. The government had informed Parliament in August that at least eight Indians were killed in the conflict and that it had strongly taken up the matter with Russia for their discharge and overall safety.

Indian farmers get just one-third of the price we pay for fruits and vegetables
Indian farmers receive only about one-third of the final selling price of fruits and vegetables, according to research papers published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on food inflation. The rest of the amount goes largely to wholesalers and retailers. In contrast, farmers in the dairy sector get around 70% of the final price, and egg producers receive about 75%. The studies revealed that for staple items like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes, farmers get about 33%, 36%, and 37% of the consumer price, respectively. For fruits, farmers earn 31% of the final price for bananas, 35% for grapes, and 43% for mangoes on the domestic market. When exported, the share for mangoes increases, but for grapes, it decreases, even if the overall price is higher. Economist Ashok Gulati, co-author of the study, mentioned that price spikes can be forecasted using a «balance sheet approach.» The research suggests several measures to prevent these spikes, including expanding private markets, enhancing the use of the e-NAM platform, promoting farmer collectives, and relaunching futures trading. Moreover, the study recommends building cold storage facilities, encouraging solar-powered storage, increasing processing capacities, and promoting consumer awareness of processed products.

Russia seeks to boost coal exports to India
coal exports to India to tap into growing demand for the fuel in the Asian country, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said. China remains the biggest buyer of Russian coal but Moscow has said India may overtake it by the start of the next decade as Beijing plans cutbacks on coal usage for power generation. India has increasingly relied on coal to address record power demand, with the rise in coal-fired power output earlier this year outpacing renewable energy growth for the first time since at least 2019.
