Indian diaspora overseas has often been accused of tampering with recruitment policies to favour Indian candidates. Recently, a Canadian women invited controversy when she claimed that she was dismissed from her job at a multinational coffee chain when she complained that desi hiring managers often showed bias towards Indian immigrants.
Taking to X, she alleged that Indian managers at Tim Hortons mainly hire people from the Indian community, which has led to feelings of exclusion and discrimination among employees from various backgrounds. The woman claimed she was fired after bringing these issues to the attention of management.
This situation has emerged amid ongoing discussions about immigration to Canada, particularly as the Trudeau government has tightened regulations in response to a significant increase in newcomers. Her allegations have ignited considerable debate on social media, prompting a wide range of reactions from users. While some have shown sympathy for her plight, emphasizing the necessity for individuals to express their concerns regarding workplace discrimination, others have reacted with skepticism about her claims.
One user remarked, “She should certainly file a complaint; there are laws against hiring exclusively from one ethnicity and against retaliation towards employees. If she sues them, she’ll likely win a substantial settlement.”
