India braces for economic strain as West Asia conflict escalates
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. India could brace for trade and stock market shocks, costlier crude and shipping, fewer jobs for Indians in West Asia and a drag on growth momentum, experts said, as Iran’s direct attack on Israel and the latter’s missile strikes on neighbouring Lebanon spark fears of an all-out conflict. A vulnerable point for the Indian economy, which imports nearly 85% of its crude oil requirement, is energy security, but experts remained optimistic about global powers stepping in to contain the crisis and limit damage to trade and economy.

Raghuram Rajan warns taking food off inflation table will be the wrong recipe
Raghuram Rajan, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, has cautioned against excluding food prices from inflation calculations. As inflation remains a key concern for the central bank, Rajan's stance is that removing food inflation from headline inflation targets could erode public's 'great faith' in the central bank's ability to manage the broader economic picture. «So, if you leave out some of the most important parts of inflation and tell them, inflation is under control, but food prices are going through the roof… they would not have great faith in the Reserve Bank,» Rajan told PTI in an inerview. Food prices have always played a significant role in shaping India's inflation picture. The current consumer price inflation (CPI) basket assigns a weight of 46% to food, a figure that many argue needs to be revisited as consumption patterns evolve. Nevertheless, Rajan maintains that food prices cannot be dismissed, as they constitute a significant portion of household spending and influence how the general public perceives inflation.

In an interview with PTI, Vembu emphasized that companies pushing employees too hard will not be able to sustain in the long run. He advocated for a balanced work environment to build long-term, sustainable organizations. Workplace Burnout and Pressure Vembu highlighted key issues like burnout, loneliness from migration to big cities, and long commutes as factors contributing to an unhealthy work environment. «You are throwing people into a very big pressure cooker, and tragically, some break, and others are broken,» Vembu said. He stressed the need for organizations to rethink their approach to building a work culture that avoids pushing employees beyond their limits. Importance of Work-Life Balance The comments come at a time when India Inc. is engaged in an intense debate following the tragic death of a young employee at a prominent consultancy firm. India has great potential to emerge as hub for green shipbuilding, says maritime expert
maritime industry expert said on Wednesday. Modernisation and upgradation of Indian shipyards is in progress, while older dockyards are being assessed for reopening and adding more capacities for green shipbuilding given a strong pickup in global demand, said Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, Regional Manager South East Asia, Pacific & India, Maritime at DNV, a Norway-based testing, certification and technical advisory services provider. «We see great potential in India emerging as a hub for green shipbuilding, driven by its government's strong focus on alternative fuels and renewable energy like biofuels and wind power,» said the industry veteran. The Indian government is encouraging investments and technology transfer from Japanese and Korean shipyards to establish shipbuilding and ship repair clusters in the country. This comes at a time when most traditional shipbuilding yards in Asia are fully booked while demand for green-maritime assets is surging ahead of the phase-based elimination of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
