Strong case for a rate cut by RBI: Jahangir Aziz, JP Morgan
With core inflation touching an all-time low, which is an indication of excess capacity in the economy, it makes a strong case for rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India, says Jahangir Aziz, Head Emerging Market Economics at JP Morgan in an interview with The Economic Times. He also talks about how debt flows from the index inclusion could help in easing the balance of payments along with softer bond yields. Even as geopolitics is crucial, it is the outcomes of the US elections which will have a bigger influence on the markets. Below are edited excerpts from the conversation: What is your assessment of the 50 bps rate cut by the Fed last week and its impact on the Indian market ? We had expected 50 basis points of rate cut after the July non-farm payroll came in.

GST, demonetisation used as weapons to clear roads for business tycoons: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday questioned the Centre's 'Make in India' project and alleged that GST and demonetisation were used as weapons to clear roads for business tycoons like Adani and Ambani. Addressing an election rally in support of Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance candidates from 11 assembly segments of Jammu district, Gandhi accused the BJP of using central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) to browbeat opponents. The Jammu district along with six other districts is going to polls in the third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir elections on October 1. «They (BJP) are talking about 'Make in India' and the defence industry but the reality is that all the contracts are going to people like Adani. An Israeli company is making weapons and Adani is pasting his label.

'Emotional overhead’ costing businesses valuable time, productivity: Survey
workplace becomes increasingly digital, a new study has found that more than a third of the workforce is losing over 40 hours a year trying to decode and interpret what their colleagues are trying to say, essentially equating to a full work week lost. Atlassian, a provider of team collaboration software, surveyed 10,000 knowledge workers across India, US, Australia, Germany and France, for research, which highlighted the hidden costs of miscommunication in today's digital-first work environment. «This is what we call ‘emotional overhead’, the wasted time and emotional turmoil caused by unclear or ambiguous communication, and poses a serious challenge for businesses. In the time that knowledge workers are wondering what their colleagues mean to say or what their manager wants from them, they could be doing mission-critical work,» said Molly Sands, head of Teamwork Lab, Atlassian.
