India's defence production hits record Rs 1.27 lakh crore with global exports to over 90 countries
defence production hit a record high of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2023-24, with the country exporting military hardware to over 90 nations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Wednesday. The milestone aligns with the 10th anniversary of the 'Make in India' programme under the NDA government. Started under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this initiative aimed to achieve self-reliance across various sectors, including defence. Singh noted, «Ten years since then, many reforms have been made in every sector including the defence sector. India is rising on the defence industrial landscape of the world.» In recent years, several measures were taken to promote domestic defence manufacturing, focusing on enhancing military preparedness, particularly along the China border. Defence exports surpassed Rs 21,000 crore for the first time in 2023-24. The ministry targets increasing this to Rs 50,000 crore within five years.

Shriram Fin raises $500 mln in second bond this year
Shriram Finance has raised $500 million by selling a three-and-a-half-year fixed rate dollar bond at 6.15% to investors across the globe. Strong investor demand helped the company price the bond much lower than initial guidance of 6.50%. «We saw demand of more than $1.5 billion which helped squeeze the pricing at the lower end of the band ultimately. Shriram is a known name in the overseas market so it is possible that they will look at another issue soon,» said a person familiar with the transaction.

Haryana elections: Rabia Kidwai blazes a trail as Nuh's first woman candidate, but challenges aplenty
Nuh, counted amongst the country's most backward areas, Rabia Kidwai has broken a glass ceiling — becoming the first woman to contest Assembly polls from the constituency where women are rarely seen without a veil, let alone lead a political campaign and fight an election. While the 34-year-old businesswoman from Gurguram is aware of the myriad challenges that confronts her — the deep-rooted gender bias, the outsider tag in Nuh, the general lack of awareness and education among voters, and seasoned political opponents — she also knows she represents a change which is precisely why, she feels, people would vote for her in these assembly polls in Haryana. Kidwai, granddaughter of former state Governor Akhlaq Ur Rehman Kidwai, has been fielded by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Up against her are battle-hardened Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed and Indian National Lok Dal's Tahir Hussain, who also holds sway among the locals. Kidwai is up for the challenge though, banking on her family's political lineage and her being a woman. As the polling day nears, she is busy campaigning, seeking votes for herself and her party.

When I said 75% dispute sorted out, it's only of disengagement: EAM Jaishankar on India-China border standoff
Jaishankar, said that when he said that 75 per cent of the border dispute between the two countries have been sorted, he is only talking about the 'disengagement' part, while adding that challenge persists in other aspects.
