She also admitted that it was her peer Deepika Padukone who inspired her to obtain a license. In an interview withMashable India, the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ star said that the sight of Padukone driving her SUV effortlessly was what eventually inspired her to take her driving lessons seriously. “I’ve tried learning to drive so many times, but both times I went for my driving test, I ended up hitting something. Deepika Padukone and I entered Bollywood around the same time—her debut was in 2007, and mine was in 2006. We were even in the same driving school back then, both living in Bandra at the time,” she revealed.

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government after the bodies of two teenage girls were found hanging from a tree in Fatehgarh and said even expecting justice under a BJP dispensation is a crime. The Dalit girls, aged 18 and 15, had left their homes around 10 pm on Monday to visit a nearby temple on the occasion of Janmashtami but did not return, police said. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in a mango orchard outside a village in Fatehgarh on Tuesday, with the police launching an investigation into what it prima facie believed to be a case of double suicide.

Union Bank freezes accounts of state-run telecom firm MTNL over non-payment of dues
Bank of India has frozen all accounts of state-run telecom company MTNL for non-payment of dues, a regulatory filing said on Wednesday. Union Bank of India informed the company on August 21 about freezing of all its accounts over non-payment of loans, debt-ridden MTNL said. «This is to inform you that Union Bank of India vide its Letter… dated August 21, 2024 has informed MTNL that its account has slipped to NPA with effect from August 12, 2024 due to which all accounts of MTNL with Union Bank of India have been freezed automatically,» MTNL said. Earlier this month, MTNL informed stock exchanges that it has defaulted on bank loan payments worth Rs 422.05 crore.

SP Jain Group acquires California Miramar University
SP Jain Group has acquired California Miramar University (CMU), which will allow the group that runs business schools to offer artificial intelligence-related master’s and bachelor’s programmes to global students. The process to acquire the university had started in November last year and the all-cash deal is now through, SP Jain Group president Nitish Jain told ET over a virtual interaction. With the acquisition, the group now has access not only to AI courses and learning tools but also the US market, he said. The group has six campuses: Dubai (opened in 2004), Singapore (2005), Sydney (2012), Mumbai (2015), London (2023), and now CMU in San Jose, California. The group primarily has two flagship programmes: master of global business and executive MBA.

Motilal Oswal AMC's AUM crosses Rs 1 lakh crore, up 50x in 10 years
Over the past 10 years from April 2014 to August 2024, the AMC’s AUM has expanded 50x along with a major expansion of its customer base, which now stands at 32 lakh from 200+ locations across India, according to a press release by the fund house. The AMC now has 46 lakh active folios across all products. In the AUM, active and passive mutual funds contribute Rs 71.8K crore (71.7%), followed by its PMS AUM at Rs 14.5K crore (14.5%) and AIF at Rs 13.7K crore (13.7%). The active mutual fund AUM stands at Rs 47.1K crore and passive mutual fund AUM is at Rs 27.8K crore. The company has a 7% share of all the category III AIF commitments and 6.5% share of all discretionary PMS customers in the industry.
