US may witness another 9/11-like terrorist attack, claims senator Lindsey Graham
Donald Trump. Republican Senator from South Carolina has made these claims during Fox News Sunday programme. The lawmaker also claimed that he was also worried about nuclear tension with Iran. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the deadliest terror attack in US history on September 11 in 2001 when two out of the four planes hijacked by Al Qaeda terrorists crashed into each of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. Another plane was crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania after passengers tried to thwart the hijacking.

Iran says it successfully launched a satellite in its program criticized by West over missile fears
Revolutionary Guard, state-run media reported, the latest for a program the West fears helps Tehran advance its ballistic missile program. Iran described the launch as the second such launch to put a satellite into orbit with the rocket. Independent scientists later confirmed the launch and that the satellite reached orbit. Footage later released by Iranian media showed the rocket blast off from a mobile launcher. An Associated Press analysis of the video and other imagery later released suggested the launch happened at the Guard's launch pad on the outskirts of the city of Shahroud, some 350 kilometers (215 miles) east of the capital, Tehran.

Nuclear secrets for ballistic missiles? UK, US express growing concerns over rumoured Iran-Russia nuclear agreement
nuclear technology with Iran in return for ballistic missiles. These missiles, believed to be used in Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine, have prompted fears of a growing nuclear threat. Both leaders acknowledged the deepening military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran during their discussions, which also covered the war in Ukraine, the Middle East crisis, and competition with China. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking earlier in London, warned, “For its part, Russia is sharing technology that Iran seeks – this is a two-way street – including on nuclear issues as well as some space information,” suggesting that Russia and Iran are engaged in destabilizing activities with global implications.

Trump is right about World War III, wrong about the analysis
Trump says is unhinged and histrionic, it’s tempting to dismiss all of it as bunk. And yet the former and perhaps future president has a populist knack for sounding alarums that resonate with the zeitgeist — for example, with growing anxiety about World War III and nuclear Armageddon. “We're a failing nation,” Trump ranted during his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris in one particularly meandering answer (the one that also recycled urban myths about immigrants eating cats). “And what, what’s going on here, you're going to end up in World War III, just to go into another subject.” He brought it up twice more. “We’re going to end up in a Third World War,” he closed. “And it will be a war like no other because of nuclear weapons.” Oh dear. Could we please stick to speculating about feasting on felines as we contemplate the United States and the world for the next four years? We can’t, unfortunately, because even experts increasingly worry about a new specter of major and global war.

Why G7? Jaishankar asks when questioned about the need for BRICS
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday dismissed the argument that there was no need for «another club» called the BRICS, and said he was struck by the «insecurity» in the developed world over the grouping. During a conversation with Ambassador Jean-David Levitte at Global Centre for Security Policy, a think tank, here, Jaishankar said if the G7 can exist when there is the G20, there is no reason why BRICS cannot. Accounting for 27 per cent of global GDP, BRICS was founded by Brazil, Russia, India and China; later South Africa joined it, and in January 2024, five new countries — Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Ethiopia --joined the bloc. «Why the club? Because there was another club! It was called the G7 and you will not let anybody else into that club. So, we go and form our own club,» Jaishankar told to a loud cheer from the audience.

Iraqi banks used US-created system to funnel funds to Iran
Ali Ghulam was the undisputed dollar king of Iraq for almost a decade. His three Baghdad banks wired tens of billions of dollars in that time outside the country, ostensibly for car parts, furniture and other imports. He was one of the biggest operators in an ad hoc banking system set up around two decades ago under the U.S.

Three killed in attack at West Bank-Jordan border
West Bank on Sunday, the first such incident since the Gaza war began in October, straining ties between the Jewish state and the Hashemite kingdom. Israel's army said that the gunman accessed the Allenby Bridge crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, from the Jordanian side in a truck and fired shots before he was killed by Israeli guards. The victims were identified as forklift operators above the age of 50. The crossing, which is used mainly by Palestinians and foreigners, was closed while Israeli security forces conducted searches given suspicions that the truck might have been rigged with explosives, the army said. Al Arabiya TV showed a backlog of trucks on the Jordanian side after the closing.

Hezbollah fires rockets, Israel strikes after attack kills Lebanon rescuers
Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon and Israeli forces traded cross-border attacks, both sides said early Sunday, a day after the Lebanese health ministry reported three rescuers killed in an Israeli attack. The Iran-backed Lebanese movement has exchanged near-daily fire with Israeli forces in support of ally Hamas since the Palestinian militant group's October 7 attack on Israel triggered the war in the Gaza Strip, with repeated escalations during 11 months of the cross-border violence. Hezbollah said it had bombarded the northern Israeli town of «Kiryat Shmona with a volley of Falaq rockets» early Sunday «in response to the enemy attacks… and particularly the attack» that killed the emergency workers in the Lebanese village of Froun.

Ukraine concern over reports of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia
Ukraine's foreign ministry said on Saturday it was deeply concerned by reports about a possible impending transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia. In a statement emailed to reporters, the ministry said the deepening military co-operation between Tehran and Moscow was a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East, and called on the international community to increase pressure on Iran and Russia. US, UK spy chiefs praise Ukraine's 'audacious' Russia incursion; call for Gaza cease-fire
intelligence agencies said Saturday that Ukraine's surprise incursion into Russia is a significant achievement that could change the narrative of the grinding 2 1/2-year war. Richard Moore, the head of MI6, said Kyiv's surprise move in August to seize territory in Russia's Kursk region was «typically audacious and bold on the part of the Ukrainians, to try and change the game». He said the offensive had «brought the war home to ordinary Russians». Speaking alongside Moore at a rare public event in London, CIA Director William Burns said the offensive was a «significant achievement» that had exposed vulnerabilities in the Russian military. Burns also warned of the growing and «troubling» defence relationship between Russia, China, Iran and North Korea that he said threatens both Ukraine and Western allies in the Middle East. North Korea has sent ammunition and missiles to Russia to use against Ukraine, while Iran supplies Moscow with attack drones.

America is losing the battle of the Red Sea
Iran launched perhaps the largest drone and missile strike in history against Israel, which was blunted by unprecedented cooperation from countries in the region and beyond. Yet the biggest surprise is also the most ominous for global order. A radical, quasi-state actor most Americans had never heard of, the Houthis of Yemen, have mounted the gravest challenge to freedom of the seas in decades — and arguably beaten a weary superpower along the way. The Houthis began their campaign against shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb, which connects the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, in late 2023. They are nominally attacking out of sympathy for the Palestinian people, but also to gain stature within the so-called Axis of Resistance, a group of Middle Eastern proxies cultivated by Iran.

Invited steel industry to discuss unfair competition to take appropriate steps: Goyal
Piyush Goyal on Friday said he has invited the steel industry to discuss about the «unfair» competition that some of them are facing to take appropriate steps with a view to promote the sector's growth. Certain steel industry players have raised concerns over rising imports from China at lower rates. «I have invited the steel industry...to understand the unfair competition that some of them are facing and take appropriate measures so that the steel industry remains vibrant, continues to grow and adds jobs to the Indian economy,» Goyal told reporters here. On September 5, he mooted the idea of introducing a border adjustment tax to protect the domestic players by providing a level-playing field against increasing imports.

US calls on Big Tech to help evade online censors in Russia, Iran
internet censorship evasion tools. The tools, supported by the U.S.-backed Open Technology Fund (OTF), have seen a surge of usage in Russia, Iran, Myanmar and authoritarian states that heavily censor the internet. OTF's pitch to tech companies at the meeting was to help offer discounted or subsidized server bandwidth to meet the fast-growing demand for virtual private network (VPN) applications that OTF funds, the organisation's president, Laura Cunningham, told Reuters.
