Oil heads for weekly fall on demand worries, dollar strength
Oil prices fell slightly in early Asian trade on Friday, on track for a weekly decline as weak manufacturing activity hurt the global demand outlook and the dollar remained buoyant. Brent crude fell 16 cents, or 0.2%, to $83.20 a barrel by 0013 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 18 cents, or 0.2%, to $78.91 a barrel. Crude prices are set to fall between 2%-3% for the week, a second consecutive week of decline. Oil settled modestly higher in the previous session after Dutch consultancy Insights Global posted data showing gasoil stocks held in independent storage in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) refining and storage hub declined by 3% in the latest week. Investor caution ahead of remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium lifted the safe-haven dollar to a 10-week high, its biggest rise in a month, as markets waited for word on how long rates would stay high.

Indiabulls Housing Finance has repaid ₹2,232 crore of external commercial borrowings (ECBs) raised in 2018 from Barclays, Japan's MUFG and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, Taiwan's CTBC and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), bringing to an end a deleveraging process the company started after IL&FS had foundered in 2018. Chief executive Gagan Banga said with the repayment on Thursday, the company has repaid all of its $3 billion foreign currency borrowings availed of in the last few years and will now shift focus to growing its assets under management (AUM). «From here on our debt repayments are merely ₹400 crore to ₹700 crore a month. This will be more than comfortably covered by repayment from the loan portfolio.

MUMBAI : Even as Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) founder Subhash Chandra and his son Punit Goenka await clean chit from the market regulator over financial irregularities in the media house, the company itself is entangled in a series of legal disputes, including tax claims, regulatory filings showed. While Zee Entertainment proceeds with its planned merger with the Indian arm of Japan’s media behemoth Sony Group Corp’s entertainment division, the filings showed that Zee is dealing with at least a dozen lawsuits, involving cases filed by the Income Tax department, the Commissioner of Service Tax, the Director General of GST Intelligence, and several lenders.
