Five of six Indian wrestlers out of Olympic-quota contention
India's men's freestyle wrestlers cut a sorry figure at the World Championships as five of the six Olympic-quota contenders have exited the prestigious tournament and only Abhimanyu could reach the medal round in the non-Olympic 70kg weight class. What was more disappointing was that the Indian wresters lost to rivals from the nations that are not known for their wrestling prowess, raising suspicion over their fitness before flying to Belgrade. Sachin Mor (79kg) lost his repechage round by technical superiority to North Macedonia's Ahmad Magomedov while Anuj Kumar (65kg) could not even clear the Qualification round, losing 7-8 to Mexico's Austin Klee Gomez. Mexico and North Macedonia are not the nations against whom the Indians are expected to lose their bouts. It has been learnt that Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had suggested the Sports Ministry to conduct medical examination of the selected wrestlers before sending them for participation, saying that many of them are possibly carrying injuries. «A few of the wrestlers selected are injured, especially 65kg freestyle wrestler.

Joe Biden mocks impeachment probe, says 'lots of luck' as McCarthy initiates inquiry
Joe Biden on Sunday responded with sarcasm when asked about the inquiry launched by Speaker Kevin McCarthy last week. “Lots of luck," said Biden while deriding the House's impeachment probe against him. McCarthy initiated the probe saying Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations about the president, according to a report published by Bloomberg. The formal inquiry is expected to focus on seeking to implicate the president in his son Hunter Biden’s overseas business affairs, though the full scope of the investigation isn’t clear.

FIDE World Junior Chess Championship: Indian chess players visa delayed by Mexican embassy
FIDE World Junior Chess Championship with some of the players yet to get their visas to travel to Mexico city for the prestigious tournament beginning on Wednesday. According to sources, the players are scheduled to leave for the Mexican capital on Monday, and the delay has resulted in a lack of clarity and uncertainty regarding their participation in the global event. Speaking to PTI, FIDE Advisory Board Chairman Bharat Singh Chauhan said, «Despite all the best effort and clearance from the Indian government, we are yet to receive the clearance from the Mexican embassy, which has resulted in the delay of visas being issued. »Tomorrow (Monday), the players are scheduled to leave, and the matter has been kept hanging till the last day, with no clarity if the visas would indeed be issued on time." According to the data sheet in possession of PTI, five of the Indian players, who are being funded by the Government of India, are yet to receive their visas. The players affected are Vrashank Chouhan, Arun Kataria, Bhagyashree Patil, Prraneeth Vuppala and Femil Chelladurai, along with coaches Pravind Thipsay M and Kiran Agrawal. «It is extremely frustrating since all the Indian players are looking forward to participating in the tournament, while the contingent is also one of the strong favourites to come out on top,» Chauhan said. «The competition is being organised by Mexico's chess federation with the approval of the Mexican government, and it should be their responsibility to ensure that the embassy gives all the necessary clearance to issue the visa on time. »The Indian authorities have done their part, and it's all up to them (Mexican authorities) now.

Why Biden’s Border Policies Aren’t Working
WASHINGTON—Four months after President Biden switched strategies to stem illegal crossings at the southern border, the new plan isn’t working. Border crossings from Mexico into the U.S. are on the rise again after an unexpected drop in May and June, when the administration ended its use of the pandemic-era measure known as Title 42 and replaced it with a new set of policies it said would work as a better deterrent.

Earth's warmest August saw 65 countries set record high temperatures: Report
Berkeley Earth, which focuses on environmental data science and analysis, said last month was the warmest August since records began to be kept in 1850, with «particularly warm conditions» prevailing in parts of India, Japan, North Atlantic, Eastern Equatorial Pacific, Northern South America, Central America, parts of Africa and the Middle East. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a US government agency, said on Thursday that 2023 witnessed Earth's hottest August in its 174-year climate record. The sizzling month also marked the northern hemisphere's warmest meteorological summer and the southern hemisphere's warmest meteorological winter on record, the NOAA's National Centres for Environmental Information said. Berkeley Earth said August 2023 exceeded the previous record set in August 2016 by 0.31 degrees Celsius, «a surprisingly large margin, well outside the margin of uncertainty». Its researchers said: «We estimate that 13 per cent of the Earth's surface experienced its locally warmest August average, and 87 per cent of the Earth's surface was significantly warmer when compared to its local average during the period from 1951 to 1980.» In total, they estimated that 65 countries (mostly in the tropics) witnessed their warmest August on record. These countries include Bahrain, Barbados, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chad, China, Colombia, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Niger, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Turkiye, Venezuela and Yemen. Some of these countries broke their August records by extraordinary margins.

NASA UFO panel on 'alien corpses' in Mexico: ‘Make these samples available to global scientific community'
NASA released the findings of its extensive study on unexplained aerial phenomena (UAPs), previously known as UFOs. This research marks a significant shift in NASA's approach, moving away from mere debunking of sightings toward a more serious consideration of these events. Earlier two "non-human" corpses in Mexico were publicly unveiled at Mexico's Congress, sparking immense excitement among UFO enthusiasts and the scientific community.

Days after Mexico displays fossils of 'alien corpses', NASA set to publish long-awaited UFO report
NASA is set to release on Thursday the findings of a long-awaited study on unexplained flying objects in Earth's skies. The US space agency announced last year it was reviewing evidence regarding unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs — which has replaced the term "UFO" in official parlance. The subject has long fascinated the public but was shunned by mainstream science. An independent team of 16 researchers shared their preliminary observations in May, finding that existing data and eyewitness reports are insufficient to draw firm conclusions, while calling for more systematic collection of high-quality data. It's unlikely Thursday's report will change that bottom line — but it could eventually usher in the start of a new mission for the agency. While NASA's probes and rovers scour the solar system for any fossils of ancient microbes, and its astronomers look for signs of intelligent civilizations on distant planets, its historic posture has been to «debunk» sightings on our home planet. There have been more than 800 «events» collected over 27 years, of which two to five per cent are thought to be possibly anomalous, the report's authors said during the May meeting. These are defined as «anything that is not readily understandable by the operator or the sensor,» or «something that is doing something weird,» said team member Nadia Drake. The US government has begun taking the issue of UAPs more seriously in recent years, in part due to concerns that they are related to foreign surveillance. NASA's work, which relies on unclassified material, is separate from a Pentagon investigation, though the two are coordinating on matters of how to apply scientific tools and methods. In July, a former US intelligence officer made
