SJVN expects its under-construction 900 MW Arun-3 hydro-electric project in Nepal to start power generation from next year as nearly three-fourths of work has been completed, its chairman and managing director Sushil Sharma said on Tuesday. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal triggered the last blast to mark the completion of heading excavation 11.8 km long head race tunnel of 900 MW Arun- 3 Hydro Electric Project in Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal, SJVN said in a statement. SJVN is constructing the multi-crore Arun 3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal. More than 74 per cent of the project works have already been completed and the remaining works are going on in full swing. The project will start generation by next year and has the potential to generate 3924 million units of electricity every year, Sharma said in the statement.

CG Foods, which makes India's third-largest instant noodles brand Wai Wai, is for the first time, reducing salt in its noodles by anywhere between 10% and 25% starting next quarter with select variants, Manvendra Amber Shukla, global chief executive officer of CG Foods, owned by Nepal-based diversified CG Corp Global, said in an interview. The move comes amid tighter regulation and heightened scrutiny on packaged foods. «What the government is doing (in terms of regulation) is definitely welcome; it is positive for consumers, and positive for the ecosystem and a responsibility of all organisations towards consumers,» he said. The salt reduction process will start with the spicier packs of Wai Wai, according to Shukla. «In India, starting next quarter, we will start the first phase of reduction of salt by 10% starting with spicy noodles. As we move forward, we will reduce salt up to 25% in other variants of our portfolio,» he said. Additionally, the group is working on plans to introduce healthier variants such as millet noodles and renewing focus on atta noodles.

growth in the last four months, India’s engineering exports declined in April 2024 by 3.2% to US$8.67 billion primarily due to lower shipments of metals, especially iron & steel and copper. Excluding the export of iron and steel, engineering exports recorded a growth of 2.61% during April 2024. A substantial 36.41% decline in exports of Iron and Steel therefore was the single most important reason behind the year-on-year decline in overall engineering exports during April 2024.

Indian spice-mix products of MDH and Everest on Friday due to quality issues, following in the footsteps of Hong Kong and Singapore. Nepal’s Department of Food Technology and Quality reported that the ban is due to the suspicion of ethylene oxide contamination. The banned spices include madras curry powder, sambhar mixed masala powder, mixed masala curry powder of MDH, and fish curry masala of Everest. The importers and traders are requested to recall these products from the Nepalese market. “As residue contents of ethylene oxide are found to be exceeding the prescribed limit in these four products, the import and sale of these products are banned within the country as per Article 19 of the Food Regulation 2027 B.S.,” Nepal's Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, in a notice said.
