Chinese ambassador promises 'friendship' and 'cooperation' as 2 Chinese warships dock in Cambodia
warships docked on Sunday at a commercial port in Cambodia, in preparation for joint naval exercises between the two countries. The Jingangshan amphibious warfare ship and Qijiguang training ship sailed in to the Sihanoukville Port as onlookers waved Cambodian and Chinese flags from the piers. The port is north of the Ream Naval Base, where China has funded a broad expansion project that has been carefully watched by the United States and others over concerns it could become a new outpost for the Chinese navy on the Gulf of Thailand. The Gulf is adjacent to the South China Sea, which China claims virtually in its entirety, and would give easy access to the Malacca Strait, one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.

Oh, a-Nazi demon-hunting we will go
video game, which — much more than 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis', the CD game my dealer had thrown in — increasingly took up not just my PC time, but also my waking hours. The game was Wolfenstein 3D. Created in 1992, this was unlike any other game I had encountered before. As William 'BJ' Blazkowicz, an American spy imprisoned by the Nazis, my job was twofold: one, to blast myself out of the highly-guarded fortress-prison of Castle Wolfenstein; two, to kill as many Nazis as possible while getting out. Even on my B&W screen, with its swivels and sharp 360° turns along the stone walls, machine-gunning the hellhounds out of Nazis, their pixelated blood spurting out like coagulated ketchup, was a genuine, artery-pumping thrill.

ET Explains: What drives inward remittances?
remittances peaked till the election year and then slowed down. India has been on top of the charts of remittances from its diaspora. In 2022-23 it crossed the $100billion mark to $112 billion and a record $29 billion in the December quarter alone. But will the uptrend continue? An explainer on what drives inward remittances. What are inward remittances? They are money sent by an Indian who is residing overseas to their families back home for their daily maintenance. In India, in terms of data, it is reflected in “ private transfers” in the balance of payments and is a major source of foreign currency resources for any economy.

On This Day: Events in history on May 12; From Florence Nightingale's birthday to Soviet Union ending blockade of Berlin
Berlin in 1949 marked a significant turning point in the early stages of the Cold War. The blockade had begun in June 1948, when the Soviet Union, in response to the introduction of a new currency in West Berlin, cut off all land and water routes into the city, effectively isolating West Berlin from the Western Allies. The blockade led to the Berlin Airlift, a massive humanitarian effort by the United States, United Kingdom, and other Western allies to supply West Berlin by air.
