Kremlin warns US missile deployment could make European capitals Russian targets
Kremlin on Saturday warned the deployment of US missiles in Germany could make European capitals targets for Russian missiles in a repeat of Cold War-style confrontation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke of a «paradox» in which «Europe is a target for our missiles, our country is a target for US missiles in Europe.» «We have enough capacity to contain these missiles but the potential victims are the capitals of these countries,» he said, speaking to Russian state television channel Russia 1.

Is Ukraine losing the war against Russia?
recently reported, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, is still publicly claiming that Ukraine will recover all the territory the Russians conquered, even if he privately knows that this will not happen soon, if at all. His frustration with the lack of progress prompted him to reshuffle the leadership of the armed forces earlier in February. Our charts and maps below show where things stand two years into Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Republicans will gather for their convention in Milwaukee next week united behind presidential candidate Donald Trump but divided on what the party stands for. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev predicts that the US is one step away from losing it completely
Dmitry Medvedev said that the US believed it had won the cold war but in reality, had failed to do so. Further, he said that the US is now one step away from losing it completely. In the past, he has threatened Russia’s opponents that the county will use its nuclear arsenal. He was largely seen as liberal in the western circles in comparison to President Vladimir Putin, but his stance changed after the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war. He is presently the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council. This has been reported by the Business Insider.

What are Iskander-M ballistic missiles that Russia frequently uses against Ukraine?
Ukraine received a setback when Russian forces rained down its famous Iskander M ballistic missiles. These missiles destroyed two S-400 air defense systems of Ukraine. This happened in the Poltava region of Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry published footages of this incident. Russia is increasingly using these missiles and it is believed to be the fourth strike on Ukraine in a span of six days. It has also been reported that Ukraine has adopted a well-known war tactic of using decoys to engage with the Russians. The latter would be tricked into striking dummy models without sustaining any major damages.

Biden's latest brutal gaffe at NATO Summit; is this the end of his Presidential candidature?
President. On Thursday, during a late evening press conference at the conclusion of the NATO summit and afterwards, Biden got two names mixed up and this the latest in a series of gaffes which has raised questions on the fitness levels of the president. Many of the democrats feel in private that this may be the last nail in the coffin of Biden’s presidential bid. This was a chance for Biden to not only prove himself but also an opportunity to arrest America’s declining influence in the global area. He appears to have failed in both the tasks.

India-Russia summit in Moscow to focus on payment system for trade
India-Russia annual summit in Moscow on Tuesday between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladmir Putin will be on devising mechanisms for the easy and quick transfer of money between the two countries. This has gained significance in the backdrop of the ban on the use of SWIFT by Russia and the unprecedented surge in bilateral trade since the Ukraine war. The two leaders are also expected to initiate a process to allow the use of national currencies by tourists and students, ET has learnt. This will include the use of RuPay cards in Russia and MiR cards in India, according to persons familiar with the matter. While 60% of India-Russia trade is currently in national currencies, the need for real-time and faster payment in the absence of SWIFT has been felt. It is in this context that Modi and Putin are expected to focus on creating a special mechanism, said the people cited above.

US encouraging partnerships between NATO alliance and friendly nations in Indo-Pacific: White House
NATO alliance and friendly countries across the world, in particular those in the Indo-Pacific region, the White House said on Monday, on the eve of the crucial NATO summit here. Leaders from 38 different countries have gathered in Washington for a historic summit to mark the 75th anniversary of the first NATO summit. This includes the leaders of all NATO allies as well as NATO partners, including Ukraine, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea. «The president has also strongly encouraged greater partnerships between the NATO alliance and friendly nations around the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, as you will see. The president knows that the global threats and challenges that we all face, including from authoritarian actors and terrorist organisations, are inextricably linked,» John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor, told reporters at a news conference here. «He has also encouraged our NATO allies to join him in making significant investments in our mutual defence and deterrence capabilities. When the Biden-Harris administration took office, only nine NATO allies were spending at least 2 per cent of their gross domestic product on defence — 2 per cent was the Wales pledge,» he said.

Miners cold to critical minerals prompt govt to rethink licensing
NEW DELHI : The Centre may issue so-called composite licences to find and extract critical minerals, in effort to end the fragmented nature of licensing, and tempt mining giants which passed up the blocks that went on auction last year. Critical mineral auction is currently a two-step process. In the first step, exploration licences are auctioned, and the bidder agreeing to share the lowest amount with a future miner wins the licence.

In a diplomatic quirk, Russia chairs a UN meeting decrying its strike on a Ukraine kids' hospital
UN Security Council members confronted Russia on Tuesday over a missile strike the previous day that destroyed part of Ukraine's largest children's hospital, pouring out condemnations at an emergency meeting chaired by Moscow's own ambassador. Russia denies responsibility for the strike at the hospital, where at least two staffers were killed. France and Ecuador asked for the session at the Security Council, but Russia led it as the current holder of the council's rotating presidency, putting Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia on the receiving end of the criticism. «Mr President, please stop this war. It has been going on for too long,» Slovenian Ambassador Samuel Zbogar appealed.

To demonstrate it, Oleksii Babenko, 25, Vyriy's chief executive, hopped on his motorcycle and rode down a dirt path. Behind him, a drone followed, as a colleague tracked the movements from a briefcase-size computer. Until recently, a human would have piloted the quadcopter. No longer. Instead, after the drone locked onto its target — Mr. Babenko — it flew itself, guided by software that used the machine's camera to track him.

Modi-Putin phone calls shaped Indian PM’s decision to visit Moscow for annual summit
annual summit surprised many in the international community, the genesis of this visit was two telephone conversations between President Vladimir Putin and the Indian PM this year. The two first spoke following Putin’s Presidential polls victory in March. This was followed by Putin’s call to Modi (first P5 leader to telephone the PM) after BJP-led NDA’s election victory on June 4. ET has learnt that during the conversations the two discussed the possible visit by Modi for annual summit and it was decided that the PM could probably visit Russia by middle of this year. The government on both sides then worked to firm up the schedule as it was felt that a political summit was imperative to give momentum to the strategic partnership. Earlier during his trip to Moscow last December External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had informed that Modi will visit Russia this year and he is also scheduled to attend the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, end of October.
