Trump's call for AI deregulation gets strong backing from Big Tech
Spooked by generative AI's sudden advance, governments initially scrambled to develop guardrails, as major tech companies rapidly integrated the technology into their products. Since taking office in January, the Trump administration has shifted focus toward accelerating AI development at all costs, pushing aside concerns about the models suffering hallucinations, producing deepfakes, or destroying human jobs.

With aid cuts looming, Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh face halved rations and misery
Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh it means they could be left with too little food and money for survival. No cuts have happened yet. But the UN World Food Programme said if it is not able to raise funds, it will have no option but to halve food rations to $6 a month from previous $12.50 in the country's southern coastal district of Cox's Bazar, where the Rohingya live in sprawling camps. It was not immediately clear if the WFP's decision was directly related to the Trump administration's action, but during a recent visit to the refugee camps, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticized the US and other countries in Europe for halting or reducing their aid budgets. UN food agency says no choice but to reduce rations To be sure, a large portion of funds needed for supporting Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh has come from the US Agency for International Development, but the country's government and dozens of aid organisations also look after their daily needs. Yet, any drop in humanitarian aid could have extreme impact on the lives of Rohingya refugees.

IT weeps & FMCG moans, but $3.5 billion FII selloff shouldn't worry Indian investors
Like the earlier month, the fortnight (ending March 15) sell-off affected nearly all sectors in the market, with the exception of metals. Metal stocks stood out as they attracted investments worth Rs 1,100 crore, making them the only sector to buck the trend. This was not the case in the preceding period.

Self-deport or be banned forever: Trump launches CBP Home app for illegal migrants
However, Trump indicated that those who choose to leave voluntarily may have a chance to re-enter the country legally in the future. «People in our country illegally can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that's not pleasant. The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States. Now my administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country illegally an easy way to leave now and self-deport voluntarily,» he said. He further added, «If they do, they could potentially have the opportunity to return legally at some point in the future. But if they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found, they will be deported, and they will never be admitted again to the United States ever, ever again. You're never coming in.» Trump also mentioned that voluntary deportation through the app could help save government resources. He stated that the CBP Home app is now available for free on all mobile app stores.

'Up to 20 years in jail for vandalising Teslas': Donald Trump revs ups warnings to attackers, 'financial backers'
Donald Trump made it clear that those involved in the recent series of attacks on Elon Musk-owned Tesla properties could face significant consequences, including long prison sentences. Trump warned that anyone caught «sabotaging Teslas» — whether the perpetrators or their financial backers — could face up to 20 years in prison, in a fiery post on Truth Social. “People that get caught sabotaging Teslas will stand a very good chance of going to jail for up to twenty years, and that includes the funders. WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!!!,” his post read. This stern warning follows a string of attacks on Tesla showrooms, charging stations, and private vehicles, mainly in left-leaning cities across the United States. The White House has strongly backed Musk in the wake of these attacks.

Trump says US will sign Ukraine minerals deal soon
Trump made the comments at a White House event after signing an order to increase U.S. production of critical minerals. «We're doing very well with regard to Ukraine and Russia. And one of the things we are doing is signing a deal very shortly with respect to rare earths with Ukraine.» Trump referred to his separate discussions this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aimed at ending Russia's war in Ukraine. Those talks, which fell short of Trump's aim to secure a full 30-day ceasefire, resulted in Putin agreeing to stop Russian attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days and Zelenskyy saying he would also accept such a pause.

Meta to launch generative AI assistant in the EU: Statement
Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta said Thursday it would launch its generative artificial intelligence assistant Meta AI in the European Union from «this week», more than a year after the service's US release. «It's taken longer than we would have liked to get our AI technology into the hands of people in Europe as we continue to navigate its complex regulatory system — but we're glad we're finally here,» the company said in a statement. «Starting this week, Meta AI will begin rolling out across 41 European countries.»

Trump to award US Air Force's next-generation fighter jet contract on Friday, sources say
The Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program will replace Lockheed Martin's F-22 Raptor with a crewed aircraft built to enter combat alongside drones. The plane's design remains a closely held secret, but would most likely include stealthiness, advanced sensors and cutting-edge engines. Lockheed and Boeing are competing for the winner-take-all engineering and manufacturing development contract, worth more than $20 billion. The winner will eventually receive hundreds of billions of dollars in orders over the contract's multi-decade lifetime. For Boeing, a win would mark a sharp reversal of fortunes for a company that has struggled on both the commercial and defense sides of its business; a loss could be devastating. A victory for Lockheed Martin, the world's largest defense contractor, would keep its high-end offerings — it also makes the stealthy F-35 — on an upward trajectory. An Air Force spokesperson and Boeing and Lockheed representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

US judge blocks expulsion of Indian researcher detained over alleged Hamas ties
Hamas ties. The detention of Badar Khan Suri, a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University in the US capital, came as fears mount in the academic world that freedom of research and speech is being challenged two months into US President Donald Trump's new term. Suri's lawyer demanded his release and denounced the arrest as a «targeted, retaliatory detention» that was intended «to silence, or at the very least restrict and chill, his speech» as well as that of others who «express support for Palestinian rights.» Early Thursday evening Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles of the Eastern District of Virginia Court ordered Suri «shall not be removed from the United States unless and until the court issues a contrary order.» The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which has also filed an emergency motion to stop the deportation, said Suri was being held at an immigration detention center in Louisiana.

As protests rage against President of Serbia, Donald Trump Jr. paid a surprise visit to the country; here's the main reason why he went there
Donald Trump Jr.’s surprise visit to Serbia this month has sparked intense scrutiny, intertwining U.S. foreign relations with the Trump family’s business ambitions. Arriving during escalating protests against President Aleksandar Vučić, Trump Jr. met with the embattled leader, later framed by his spokesperson as part of a podcast interview. Critics, however, see the trip as a strategic move to bolster Vučić’s political standing while advancing plans for a Trump International Hotel in Belgrade. The project, spearheaded by Jared Kushner’s Affinity Global Development, aims to transform a NATO-bombed government site into a luxury complex, stirring opposition over its historical significance and alleged conflicts of interest.

You can get a shot for speedy weight loss at Rs 14k a month
Eli Lilly on Thursday introduced its globally popular anti-diabetes and obesity drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide) in India, kicking off a raft of planned launches in this therapeutic area over the next few months. At the starting dose of 2.5 mg, the drug will cost Rs 14,000 a month, a company official said. The 2.5 mg vial and 5 mg vial will be available at Rs 3,500 and Rs 4,375, respectively. A spokesperson said as Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-based product, the treatment plan is determined by a healthcare professional and varies for each individual. Eli Lilly will sell only Mounjaro for both obesity and diabetes in India unlike Zepbound, which is the prescribed obesity drug in the US. The key ingredient tirzepatide is the same for both brands. «The dual burden of obesity and type 2 diabetes is rapidly emerging as a major public health challenge in India,» Winselow Tucker, president and general manager, Lilly India, said in a statement. «Lilly is committed to collaborating with the government and industry to promote awareness and improve the prevention and management of these diseases.»
