No takers for Roman Polanski film ‘The Palace’ in France
France, saying morality should not weigh on art. One of the most successful directors of his generation, Polanski fled the United States over a conviction for raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977, a crime he admitted. After the #MeToo movement gained global traction in 2017 following sexual abuse allegations against U.S. film producer Harvey Weinstein, a number of women alleged that Polanski had sexually assaulted them as teenagers as well. Polanski, a dual French-Polish national, denied the allegations which never went to trial, but he has since found it hard to secure global distribution deals for his movies, even if actors are still lining up to work with him. 'The Palace', a comedy set in a Swiss hotel peopled with a cast of grotesque characters, stars Mickey Rourke, John Cleese, Oliver Masucci, Fanny Ardant and Joaquim De Almeida. The producer Luca Barbareschi said he had sold distribution rights across continental Europe, but not in France, Britain or the United States, despite the fact well-known actors from all three countries appeared in the film. Barbareschi said Polanski's last movie 'An Officer And A Spy', which opened at the Venice Film Festival in 2019 to critical acclaim, had also never been seen in cinemas in the United States, Britain, Australia or New Zealand. «And we ask ourselves why there are wars.

Man City vs Fulham live streaming: Here are all options to watch the Premier League game
City is set to face Fulham in their last Premier League match before the upcoming international break. Thus far, Manchester City has maintained an impeccable Premier League record this season, securing victories against Burnley, Newcastle United, and Sheffield United in their previous matches. Fulham, on the other hand, has also demonstrated a strong start to the season, remaining undefeated in league competition. Despite playing with 10 men, they managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in their last outing. Additionally, Fulham had a noteworthy performance in the Carabao Cup this week, eliminating Tottenham in a penalty shootout. In the previous encounter against City last November, Fulham narrowly lost due to a 90th-minute penalty from Erling Haaland. Therefore, they aim to pose a formidable challenge to Pep Guardiola's team once again.

'Legacy admissions' under fire at US universities
So-called "legacy admissions" — long a standard practice at many prestigious American universities, including Harvard and Stanford — are coming under increased scrutiny, though it's unlikely they'll go without a fight, even in a country that extols success through individual merit. But cracks are beginning to form, galvanized by a recent Supreme Court case and an Education Department investigation sparked by a legal complaint aiming to take down what one university president called an «aristocratic» system unfit for a democracy. Legacy admissions don't guarantee entry into a particular university, but they do give hopefuls an edge: If a prospective student can boast that, in addition to having a solid academic record, they are the child or relative of an alumnus, that can tip the scales in their favor during the very competitive admissions process. Harvard University's acceptance rate for «legacy» students from 2014 to 2019 was 33 percent, according to the student newspaper — compared to its overall acceptance rate of six percent.

Buying on dips likely to support gold prices
gold closed almost flat at $1,940 on Friday as US treasuries fell, despite a weak monthly US job report. The surge in yields on Friday boosted the US dollar index, thus mitigating the impact of a weak job report. However, the yellow metal was up nearly 1.37% for the week as yields were lower in the week ending September 1. The US non-farm payroll report for August was softer than expected.

Why Aditya-L1? The strange case of the great Canadian blackout
Aditya-L1. Few know exactly why the study of the Sun is so important for people on Earth. One major reason is the harmful impact of the Sun on Earth. Storms on the Sun and flares it emits, if they are directed towards Earth, can cause huge damage. Major objectives of Aditya-L1 include the study of the physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism, the solar wind acceleration, coupling and dynamics of the solar atmosphere, solar wind distribution and temperature anisotropy, and origin of Coronal Mass Ejections and flares and near-earth space weather. Aditya-L1 will study how storms and flares from the Sun emerge and impact us on Earth and our space activities. What happened in the Canadian province of Quebec in 1989 is an instructive case. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the American space agency, has described how disturbances on the Sun disrupted life on Earth.
