Mind-music fusion: Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall' reconstructed from brain activity of listeners
Brain activity of people listening to Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall' was used to reconstruct the classic rock number, scientists report in a new study. The reconstruction reveals that brain waves can be recorded and processed to bring out musical elements of the speech heard, such as rhythm, stress, accent and intonation, along with the syllables, the study from the University of California (UC), Berkeley, US, said. These musical elements are known to convey meaning in ways that spoken words alone do not. The phrase «All in all it was just a brick in the wall» could be recognised in the reproduced song, with its rhythms intact and the words muddy yet decipherable, the researchers report in the study published in the journal PLoS Biology. The listeners were 29 patients undergoing epilepsy surgery at Albany Medical Center, New York, US, over a decade ago. Neuroscientists at the centre recorded electrical activity through electrodes placed on the patients' brains as they heard an approximately 3-minute segment of the classic Pink Floyd song from the 1979 album The Wall. «As this whole field of brain machine interfaces progresses, this gives you a way to add musicality to future brain implants for people who need it, someone who's got some disabling neurological or developmental disorder compromising speech output.

Coinbase gets green light to list crypto futures in US
The exchange says it has been granted approval by the National Futures Association (NFA), a self-regulatory organisation designated by the CFTC, making it the first crypto-native platform to directly offer traditional spot crypto trading alongside leveraged crypto futures.Coinbase applied with the NFA nearly two years ago and says it has been working with regulators since then to ensure it will comply with all regulations and that its business model meets the CFTC’s customer protection requirements. Greg Tusar, VP, institutional products, Coinbase, writes in a blog: "We believe this is a watershed moment to be able to bring regulated crypto products to US customers."The approval is regulatory win for Coinbase, which has been publicly locking horns with the SEC.

Rumours of Prince Harry's secret late-night chats with Kate Middleton debunked, royal indiser says it won't happen 'without Meghan’s blessing'
Prince Harry's private talks with his sister-in-law Kate Middleton has taken an unexpected turn, as an insider has completely dismissed these speculations. There had been reports that the Duke of Sussex reportedly engages in late-night chats with Middleton, but it appears that even if he does so, it's only with Meghan's blessing, according to royal expert Kinsey Schofield. These reports had also stated that Middleton was showing her support by reaching out to Prince Harry during challenging times, advising him to stay positive and not let temporary setbacks, like his Spotify deal falling through, get him down. Speaking about these rumours, Schofield told GB News, “They have made it a point to distance themselves. Meanwhile, Harry is defiant and will insist that there aren’t any ‘difficulties.’ I personally don’t believe that Harry would speak to Catherine privately without Meghan’s blessing." Prince Harry's decision to step back from his senior royal role in 2020 has strained his relationships at the royal court, notably with Prince William and Middleton.

Coinbase gets approval to offer crypto futures to eligible US customers
Coinbase said it's received regulatory approval to bring federally regulated crypto futures trading to eligible customers in the US, sending shares sharply higher before the opening bell Wednesday. The cryptocurrency exchange said that it filed its application with the association in 2021. Now that it has received approval, Coinbase says eligible US customers will be able to access regulated derivatives products through Coinbase Financial Markets, subject to the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the NFA. The company tweeted that it can now offers cryptocurrency futures contracts in bitcoin and ether. In the latest episode of Cointelegraph’s The Market Report, analyst Marcel Pechman discusses the first spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) approved in the European Union, which went live on the Euronext Amsterdam exchange on Aug. 15. Despite the seemingly unconventional choice of the Guernsey regulator for its constitution, the fund’s listing on Euronext suggests a strategic maneuver, though its meager 1 million euro launch and unfamiliar management casts a shadow over its appeal.
