India surpasses China as top source of international students in the US, first time in 15 years
international students in the United States, according to the latest Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange. During the 2023-2024 academic year, over 331,602 Indian students pursued higher education at US institutions, representing a significant 23% jump from the previous year. This increase was primarily driven by graduate student enrollment, which saw a 19% rise to reach 196,567 students. The report also highlights a significant 41% increase in Indian students participating in Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, reaching a total of 97,556. “The experience of studying in the United States not only shapes the lives of individuals, but the future of our interconnected world,” said Scott Weinhold, senior bureau official for the Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. “The ties formed between US and international students today are the basis of relationships for future business and trade, science and innovation, and government relations.”

Capex companies will face a longer winter than consumer companies: Ajay Srivastava
Ajay Srivastava, CEO, Dimensions Corporate, says, three segments – appliances, hotels, aviation – will directly see improved consumption. I am not sure capex companies are going to see a major uplift for the simple reason that government spending has to kick in and that is where the bigger problem lies. The government is not spending money for the right reasons like fiscal deficit, etc, So, capex companies will have a little longer winter than the consumer companies. It has been a tumultuous market. Nobody expected the US market to bounce back the way it did. Nobody expected Indian markets to correct the way it has. Where are we headed? Will the entire grind continue? Are we in for a long winter? Ajay Srivastava: Oh, no, not at all. Let us be honest. At the end of the day, when the market goes up, the whole world says it will keep going up. When it starts to go down, the theory is everyone says, you know what, underperformance continues, we will do badly and so on. We got caught and it is strange that people never thought that September would be a bad month in the economic cycle of India, given elections were just finished and the consumption cycle would change from October because that is the festive season. It will reverse itself. You will find earning surprises for this quarter.

America got the world driving. Now it’s going home
Carl Benz might have invented the automobile, but it’s the United States that got us to drive them. The relentless export of American cars and car culture put the world on the road in the 20th century. By the 1960s, Ford Motor Co. had plants in almost every major European country, as well as Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, India, Israel, Peru, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, and Zimbabwe. Right now, it’s passing that baton to China with barely a fight. The US car industry that emerges will be smaller, less influential — and, eventually, less profitable and financially sustainable.

Donald Trump Jr says pushback against Cabinet picks proves they are the disrupters voters wanted
Donald Trump Jr said on Sunday that any pushback from the Washington establishment around his father's unconventional choices for Cabinet proves they are just the kind of disruptors that voters are demanding. The younger Trump insisted the team now around the president-elect knows how to build out an administration, unlike when his father first took office. «The reality this time is, we actually know what we're doing. We actually know who the good guys and the bad guys are,» he told Fox News Channel's «Sunday Morning Futures». «And it's about surrounding my father with people who are both competent and loyal. They will deliver on his promises. They will deliver on his message. They are not people who think they know better, as unelected bureaucrats.» After Donald Trump was elected in 2016, he stocked his early administration with choices from traditional Republican and business circles, tapping figures such as former Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who was his first as secretary of state.
