markets Yellow Food Trade DAL country How to fix India’s problem with pulses
government wants India to be selfsufficient in pulses by 2027-28. As the world’s largest producer of pulses by far, this may not seem hard, but we are also the largest consumer. A large part of pulses’ production in countries like Myanmar, Canada and Australia is meant for India. Ending imports won’t be easy. This is particularly so for a reason that doesn’t get captured by aggregated figures. Policy makers tend to refer to agricultural products as if they were one thing. Just as barrels of oil (within certain specifications) are considered identical, rice, wheat and pulses are also spoken of as one thing for production and trade statistics. But at the consumption end, we know that the differences between varieties are huge.

Cooper President War reports International US General arrives in Middle East as Israel prepares for possible Iranian attack
US Central Command's General Michael Kurilla arrived in the region on Saturday amid preparations for a possible attack by Iran on Israel in response to the recent killings of senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, US-based news website Axios reported, citing two US officials. General Kurilla's visit, which was planned before the recent escalation between Israel, Iran, and Hezbollah following the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, is now seen as a strategic move. He is expected to mobilise the international and regional coalition that previously defended Israel against an attack from Iran on April 13, Axios reported, citing a US official. Pool President track country Olympics Sporting athletics Meet the nations that have never won an Olympic medal (and two that just did)
countries are winning most of the Olympic medals every two years, that's because it's largely true. Even though more than 150 countries and territories have claimed a medal since the modern Games began in 1896, the list of winners is top-heavy. Entering the Paris Summer Games, the United States has the most, by far, with 2,975 medals, according to the International Olympic Committee's research wing. A group of usual suspects follow: the former Soviet Union (1,204), Germany (1,058), Great Britain (955), France (898). Nearly 70 countries and territories, though — roughly a third of the parade of nations — cannot boast an Olympic medalist in any discipline, summer or winter. Some, like South Sudan, which sent its first team to the Olympics in 2016, have only just begun trying. Others, like Monaco, have been at it for more than a century.

markets Action Apple Software innovations testing Features Apple asks judge to toss antitrust lawsuit
Apple asked a US judge to dismiss a lawsuit by federal and state anti-trust regulators accusing it of illegally monopolising the smartphone market, saying the case would have a judge redesign its popular iPhone. Apple was accused of an illegal monopoly on smartphones, which is allegedly maintained by imposing contractual restrictions on, and withholding critical access from, developers. However, Apple argued that putting reasonable limitations on third-party developers’ access to its technology did not amount to anti-competitive behaviour, and forcing it to share technology with competitors would chill innovation. Apple also argued that the lawsuit fails to raise any evidence that its practices harm competition or consumers, who it says plausibly switch to a competitor if they dislike what iPhone features.
