WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Former U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, a Democrat who retired from the House of Representatives after 30 years in office, died at 88, her family said on social media on Sunday.

U.S. Representative Mike Johnson has been elected by his fellow Republicans to serve as the 56th Speaker of the US House of Representatives after three weeks of turmoil and three failed candidates.

It took four candidates and just over three weeks, but the U.S. House of Representatives finally has a speaker.
