Siddaramaiah challenges Amit Shah to debate, says unfair funds devolution, not guarantees are draining Karnataka’s coffers
union Home Minister Amit Shah to a debate on the state’s guarantee schemes, saying that if the latter was so sure the schemes were the culprit behind Karnataka’s drained coffers, he should clearly state it. Shah is in Mysuru to participate in the Suttur Jatra Mahotsav, a six-day annual celebration with cultural and folk events. BJP leaders, the CM added, should also discontinue guarantee schemes in the saffron-party ruled states, if they objected to them. “The honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who opposed our guarantee schemes, has now stolen not only our guarantee schemes but also the name 'guarantee' and is advertising under the same name. This shows the anti-poor stance and intellectual bankruptcy of that party,” he said.

Shah’s meeting to get the election preparations rolling comes amid Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar targeting to win 15-20 seats on the back of five-guarantees it has rolled out.

Young demographic dividend will see India@100 emerging as a $35-trillion economy: Piyush Goyal
Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry Minister, says “the more we are criticised, the more power this government and particularly Prime Minister Modi gets. We are an aspirational government. We are a hungry government, hungry as in not in the belly, but hungry for more. As they say in Hindi, yeh dil mange more, or dil jitna zyada mangega, utni zyada mehnat karega. The more you desire, the more you work hard for meeting those aspirations, those goals, and I think it is very fair to say that we have miles to go before we sleep and I would think till the last breath of every human being that should be the spirit.”

Ram temple consecration was not a BJP event: JP Nadda
BJP Chief JP Nadda underlined in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on construction of the Ram temple and its consecration on Saturday that those alleging that it was a party event are mistaken as the ceremony was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and no leader from his organisation was present. Those who had avoided the program appear to be in the “neither here nor there” category. The discussion on the resolution moved by BJP member Sudhanshu Trivedi saw the participation of members from different parties, with some charging that while Lord Ram belongs to and is revered by everybody the ruling party has politicised the issue for its own electoral benefit. The Opposition alleged that attempts have been made all along to use the issue to create fissures. Nadda and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal, as well as other BJP members, heaped praise on Modi for the whole movement. “We (BJP) had decided in our Palampur conclave in 1989 that we will clear the way for the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya but some people tried to create roadblocks,” Nadda said, adding that as president of the BJP youth wing he was witness to and suffered the police action, jail, and other hardships along with other supporters.

CAA will be in force before Lok Sabha polls: Home Minister Amit Shah
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be notified and implemented before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, home minister Amit Shah said at the ET Now Global Business Summit on Saturday. He criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's caste, saying the opposition party was twisting facts and creating controversy. The legislation is aimed at conferring citizenship on persecuted non-Muslim migrants, and not to take that status away from anyone, said Shah. It was passed by the Parliament in December 2019, sparking protests at the time, but hasn't been implemented yet. The general elections are expected in April-May.

MPs term 17th Lok Sabha as 'historic'; Article 370, triple talaq, Ram temple highlights
Lok Sabha on Saturday hailed the tenure as «historic» and recalled Article 370, triple talaq, Ram temple and the new Parliament building as the highlights. Poonam Mahajan, Mumbai North Central MP, said, «I feel blessed to be an MP in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's era. We can see things happening the way it was never before. The impact on social reforms, economic reforms and reforms with which we can take the farmers, youth and women forward. As many as 25 crore people have come above poverty line, which is the biggest achievement.» Asked what was the highlight when it comes to legislative business, she said, «Article 370 was abrogated. It was connected more with our hearts. Kashmir has suffered many years of bad politics of Congress. Triple talaq bill was about equality for women, that is what we are looking for.» «The past five years have been very good. Of course, travel was disrupted in between during COVID but still we managed and the session went on. It was very very successful. I was part of two Lok Sabhas — 16th and 17th. I met so many people and intellectuals… became friends beyond party lines and got to learn a lot. I liked being here,» Mathura MP Hema Malini said.

Ram Temple verdict reflected India's secularism, nowhere else majority community waited so long for faith: Amit Shah
Amit Shah asserted on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took all sections of society along on the Ram temple issue and described the Supreme Court verdict on the matter as a reflection of India's secular character to the world. Speaking in Lok Sabha during a discussion on the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the consecration ceremony on January 22, he said that in no other country has the majority community waited for so long for a matter related to its faith. He lauded all those who participated in the long struggle on various fronts on the Ram temple issue. The Supreme Court verdict on the Ram temple showed India's secular character to the world, Shah said. People's struggle for constructing the Ram temple in Ayodhya began in 1528 and the legal battle fought for it started in 1858, he said, adding that it all came to an end on January 22 which rejuvenated India's faith and marked the beginning of the journey of a great India.

SKM welcomes Bharat Ratna for Charan Singh, Swaminathan, slams govt for not keeping MSP promise
Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Saturday welcomed the conferring of Bharat Ratna on Chaudhary Charan Singh and MS Swaminathan but termed it an attempt to divert people's attention from government's failure to provide Minimum Support Price for crops as suggested by the Swaminathan committee. In a statement, the SKM also said Singh and Swaminathan will remain alive in people's memory for their contribution to farmers even without a Bharat Ratna and «denounced» Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to solve the crisis of farmers of India. «SKM welcomes BJP government's late recognition of Chaudhary Charan Singh and due recognition of Dr. MS Swaminathan for their contribution to agriculture and farmers in conferring Bharat Ratna on them. While Chaudhary Charan Singh had a role in implementation of Zamindari Abolition in UP leading to ownership rights for peasantry, as the Chairman of the National Farmers' Commission, Dr. MS Swaminathan made recommendations for income guarantee to farmers,» the SKM said in a statement. «However, the Modi government is honouring and decorating the leaders only to cheat the farmers and people. The PM has neither honesty nor sincerity and indulged in a poor vote catching gimmick intended to worsen farmers' misery and use tokenism to camouflage his services to big corporate forces associated with foreign companies in farming,» it said.
