Based on current policy settings, global energy demand is set to slow between 2023 and 2035 to about 0.5% a year as a result of efficiency measures, electrification and a rapid build-out of renewables.

Mere existence of 40% disability does not bar student from pursuing MBBS course: SC
Supreme Court on Tuesday said mere existence of a benchmark disability of 40 percent does not bar a person from pursuing medical education unless there is an expert report that the candidate was incapacitated from pursuing MBBS. A bench of Justices BR Gavai, Aravind Kumar and KV Viswanathan gave detailed reasons for its September 18 order where it allowed a candidate to take admission in MBBS course after the medical board opined that he can pursue medical education without any impediment. The bench said the capacity of a candidate suffering from disability to pursue the MBBS course has to be examined by the disability assessment board. It said, «Mere existence of benchmark disability will not disqualify a candidate from being eligible for the MBBS course. The disability board assessing the disability of the candidate must positively record whether the disability of the candidate will or will not come in the way of the candidate pursuing the course.»

China exports growth slows in blow to economy’s bright spot
China’s export growth unexpectedly slowed in September, curbing a trade rebound that has been a bright spot for a weakening economy that policymakers are relying on manufacturing to power. Exports climbed just 2.4% in dollar terms from a year earlier to almost $304 billion, the lowest level since May, the customs administration said Monday. Shipments to key markets including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan all fell, while exports to the European Union and the US marked their slowest rise in at least four months as politicians ramped up tariffs. Russian purchases of Chinese goods soared to a record $11 billion, as Beijing continues to shield Moscow from economic isolation after Western companies producing everything from cars to phones quit President Vladimir Putin’s nation due to sanctions to punish his military aggression.

Taiwan details record surge in Chinese warplanes involved in war games
Taiwan's defence ministry on Tuesday detailed the surge in Chinese warplane activity around the island during war games the previous day, saying it had detected a record 153 Chinese military aircraft. China held a single day of what it called "Joint Sword-2024B" drills on Monday as a warning to «separatist acts», following last week's national day speech by Taiwan President Lai Ching-te that Beijing denounced. In its daily update on Chinese military activity around the island in the previous 24 hours, Taiwan's defence ministry said it spotted 153 Chinese military aircraft, updating a figure given on Monday evening of 125 which it had already said was a record high for a single day.
