Qatar's Sheikh Jassim withdraws bid to buy Manchester United
Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani has withdrawn a bid to buy Manchester United, the BBC reported on Saturday. United announced nearly a year ago that the board was exploring «strategic alternatives to enhance the club's growth», with a full sale one of the options. Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe were the front runners after several rounds of bidding earlier this year, but the process has stalled in recent months despite the anger of supporters towards current owners, the Glazer family. The Americans have owned the English giants since a leveraged takeover in 2005 for £790 million ($961 million) saddled the club with huge debts. Figures in March showed United's debts have grown to £970 million. However, the Glazers are believed to be holding out for a world record fee for a football club in excess of £6 billion. Sheikh Jassim's bid was for full control of United and promised to clear the club's debt. By contrast, Ratcliffe is reportedly willing to buy a smaller stake to break the impasse ownership of the 20-time English champions. The Red Devils fortunes on the field have also faded under the Glazer's tenure. United have not won the Premier League since former manager Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and last won the Champions League in 2008. They currently sit 10th in the Premier League and have lost their first two Champions League group stage matches for the first time in the club's history.

India-Pakistan match: A little bit of green in a sea of blue
Mohammad Uzair and Asif Syed Ali were a rare sight in Ahmedabad — two Pakistan fans in an Indian dominated crowd of around 120,000 witnessing the biggest show in cricket. The friends had travelled from their homes in Houston for Saturday’s World Cup clash, vowing to match their counterparts “chant for chant”. The two joined Mohammad Basheer, also from the United States, as part of the small number of Pakistan fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the biggest cricket stadium in the world. Visa delays have denied virtually all Pakistan fans — especially from across the border — the chance to travel to India despite having World Cup match tickets. “All’s well that ends well,” said US passport holder Uzair. “Finally, we are here but how? Don’t ask.

US astronaut gets used to Earth after record-setting 371 days in space
Rubio now has to get used to that pesky thing Earthlings call gravity. «Walking hurts a little bit the first few days, the soles of your feet and lower back,» he said at a news conference Friday at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. «I think there is a certain level of pain that comes with the fact that your lower back now supports half your weight.» Rubio returned to Earth two weeks ago after spending 371 days in space, having taken off in September of last year aboard a Russian rocket for what was supposed to be a routine, six-month mission. The Soyuz spacecraft that was supposed to bring them back was docked at the International Space Station to be used as an emergency backup vehicle. But then it sprung a coolant leak in December, probably due to a micrometeoroid. So as a precaution, the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, returned the vessel to Earth.
