Blinkit, the quick-commerce arm of food delivery major Zomato, has introduced an option to purchase items on equated monthly instalments (EMI). “EMI options will be applicable on all orders above Rs 2,999 (except orders that contain gold and silver coins),” Blinkit chief executive Albinder Dhindsa wrote in a post on microblogging platform X. This is similar to ecommerce platforms, which have been offering EMI options for a while. The move is aimed at making purchases more affordable for consumers, driving higher spending, especially for big-ticket items.

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani said in a conversation with Nvidia chief executive officer (CEO) Jensen Huang. Speaking at the Nvidia AI Summit in Mumbai on Thursday, Ambani said India is now one of the top countries in digital infrastructure, alongside the US and China. “India now has the best digital connectivity infrastructure, apart from the US and China, with 4G, 5G, and broadband systems in the world,” he said.

Go Digit General Insurance posted a net profit of Rs 89.4 crore for the July-September quarter, up 222% from Rs 27.7 crore a year earlier. The new-age general insurance company reported a gross written premium of Rs 2,368.5 crore in the September quarter, up 14% from Rs 2,073.8 crore a year back. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) team that came to his aid after he was rescued from the remote Ralam village in Uttarkhand’s Pithoragarh district following an emergency helicopter landing due to inclement weather and left stranded at over 12,000 feet. Ralam is a high Himalayan village and is typically deserted during winter. Despite this, three villagers — Ishwar Singh Nabiyal, Surendra Kumar, and Bhupendra Singh Dhakriyal — trekked over 38km through rugged terrain to reach Kumar, who was stuck without food or proper shelter. He was with two other poll officials and the pilot of the chopper. The villagers provided warm noodles and other essential supplies to the officials. They arrived at the village around 1:00 am after battling extreme conditions.

Bombay High Court on Wednesday suspended the life sentence of gangster Chhota Rajan in connection with the murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty here in 2001 and granted him bail in the case. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan directed Rajan to furnish a bond of Rs one lakh for the bail. Rajan will, however, continue to remain in jail in connection with other criminal cases. In May this year, a special court convicted Rajan in the hotelier's murder case and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Kim Jong Un has visited missile bases to examine their readiness to undertake actions of «strategic deterrence», while calling U.S. nuclear capabilities a growing threat to the country, state media reported on Wednesday. The U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal poses an «ever-increasing threat» to North Korea's security environment, which demands that Pyongyang maintain a strict counteraction posture of its nuclear forces, he was quoted as saying by KCNA. NMDC has announced another price hike for its iron ore effective from October 23, a notification said. The price of lump ore has increased by 18.69 per cent since August this year and by 10.43 per cent in October alone to Rs 6,350 per tonne. While fines have seen a 17.35 per cent hike since August and a nearly 8 per cent rise in October to Rs 5,410 per tonne.

Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm 'Dana' on Wednesday morning, the Odisha government expedited the evacuation of people from coastal areas and deployed 288 rescue teams in vulnerable areas across 14 districts, officials said. The state government has already mobilised 19 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, 51 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams, and 178 Fire Services teams, with an additional 40 teams also deployed in the affected districts. On Wednesday morning, the Indian Air Force transported 150 NDRF personnel and relief materials to Bhubaneswar using two aircraft.

Paytm has beat expectations or at least managed to do so for now, thanks to Zomato. One97 Communications, which operates fintech and digital payments major Paytm was expected to clock higher revenue growth but the losses were expected to widen in Q2. Losses for the July-September 2024 period were likely to widen up to Rs 660 crore from Rs 290 crore in the same period of last year. However, beating expectations in the second quarter of FY 2025, Paytm posted a profit of Rs 930 crore, largely fueled by a one-time exceptional gain of Rs 1,345 crore from selling its entertainment ticketing business to Zomato.

It also made it clear that any high-handedness against any accused in violation of their fundamental rights would not be allowed, reported TOI. “ED officers should remember that there is something called Article 21 in the country (which guarantees right to life and liberty),” the Supreme Court said. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih took exception to the way in which former IAS officer Anil Tuteja was issued summons and arrested in a hurry. It sought an explanation from ED.
