Maharashtra police on Monday said they have arrested Nagpur journalist Prashant Koratkar, booked for making derogatory remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji, from Telangana. Target Action Remark President reports Investigations Maldives may go Pakistan way: President threatens action against senior scribe
Adhadhu, a fairly popular mainstream online media portal, (known to be pro-MDP and anti-government in orientation) has faced the wrath of the Muizzu government. It has been consistently publishing anti-government stories even since President Muizzu assumed office. Their stories have highlighted the failures, corruption and errors of the government led by Md Muizzu. It has been learnt that Muizzu earlier this month allegedly called up Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and threatened him of ‘strictest action’ for coverage against his son by the media house. The trigger for this was the reported remarks targeting the President’s son, made by an opposition MDP activist, Mariyam ‘Mandhy’ Zubair, at a recent protest rally. The President’s spouse vehemently denied this allegation and also filed a civil suit against the MDP activist. Several senior leaders, Ministers and child rights bodies condemned the remarks, calling it invasion of the child’s dignity.

markets Merit Action wellness Trade Experts rights Market rebound mostly led by DIIs; betting on BFSI and consumer discretionary stocks: Sunil Subramaniam
Sunil Subramaniam, Market Expert, says that though FIIs have started coming back, the market bounce-back is being led by DIIs as they have been sitting on Rs 2.5 lakh crore cash in the broad market and they are now looking to reverse the trade. Plus the Rs 100,000 crore Budget bonanza via tax cuts would also kick in. Subramaniam says rate sensitives and hence BFSI and consumer discretionary stocks are the right picks at this time. What are you making of this steady climb that the markets have seen? The Nifty alone has recovered about almost 1,000 to 1,200 points from the recent lows? Sunil Subramaniam: Though FIIs are coming back slowly, I still think it is the DII action which is driving the markets because as I have said before, there is a huge pileup of cash, almost about Rs 2.5 lakh crores with DIIs there and that money is a broad market money. It is not just largecaps, it is large, mid, and small. As the fund houses had generated cash by selling small and midcap stocks, used part of it to buy largecaps and hence the fall in largecaps is not so much, they are essentially now looking at reversing the trade.

UPS Action Experts Justice reports Courts Videos Cash at home case: Legal experts praise CJI's decision to put documents in public domain
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna's decision to put crucial documents relating to a controversy surrounding alleged discovery of cash from Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma's residence in the public domain and constituting an in-house committee to further inquire into the matter. While senior advocate Sanjay Hegde said the CJI must be commended for enforcing openness and putting things out in the public domain, senior lawyer Indira Jaising expressed satisfaction over the setting up of the in-house inquiry panel and said people should wait for its outcome. Saluting the wisdom of the CJI and other members of the Supreme Court collegium for releasing the inquiry report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala said, «Let the in-house committee make an independent inquiry and submit the report to the chief justice of India for taking appropriate decisions.» Hegde, who described a video of the purported currency-discovery incident as «deeply distressing», said irrespective of the question of innocence or guilt of the judge concerned, the very fact that so much money is ostensibly being seen burnt in proximity to his house raises many questions. «It also tends to lower the image of the judiciary. Irrespective of the question of guilt or innocence, I think a full inquiry and corrective action is required. The chief justice of India must be commended for enforcing openness and putting things out in the public domain.

Trump administration, the biggest concern for many journalists was labels. Would they, or their news outlet, be called «fake news» or an «enemy of the people» by a president and his supporters? They now face a more assertive President Donald Trump. In two months, a blitz of action by the nation's new administration — Trump, chapter two — has journalists on their heels. Lawsuits. A newly aggressive Federal Communications Commission. An effort to control the press corps that covers the president, prompting legal action by The Associated Press. A gutted Voice of America. Public data stripped from websites. And attacks, amplified anew. «It's very clear what's happening. The Trump administration is on a campaign to do everything it can to diminish and obstruct journalism in the United States,» said Bill Grueskin, a journalism professor at Columbia University. «It's really nothing like we saw in 2017,» he said. «Not that there weren't efforts to discredit the press, and not that there weren't things that the press did to discredit themselves.»
