What will lead and gain the most in auto sector now? Manish Gunwani answers
Manish Gunwani, Head — Equities, Bandhan AMC, says “there seems to be a fairly significant shift of sourcing from China and other countries to India. The good part is that in a lot of these segments, India has a big domestic market. So the expertise gets built and a lot of the companies are part domestic part exports. So one is just not playing only the domestic capex cycle, especially for the product makers. One is also playing this optionality that in a very big global market, they may become fairly large companies.” You have been talking about capex and infrastructure, stepping into elections. What is your narrative on the entire capex theme? And what happens post that if the government continues, which seems to be likely and the market also seems to be pricing it as of now? In that case, focus would be on private capex picking up because up until now, we have been running on government capex push. Manish Gunwani: This is not a very broad based capex theme like during 2002-2008, both in India and globally. For example, if commodity prices are soft, you cannot expect too much of capex from the steel guys, from the upstream oil and gas guys etc. But there are segments, obviously, like energy transition and power which are doing well.

Invest in women for a gender dividend to transform India
In the 1990s, South Korea faced a pivotal moment in its economic development. At the time, the country was rapidly industrializing and seeking ways to sustain its economic growth. Recognizing the untapped potential of half its population, South Korea embarked on a series of reforms aimed at increasing women’s participation in the workforce and promoting gender equality.

End pink-washing: Companies should be earnest about gender equality
Come Women’s Day, many companies jump onto the bandwagon of diversity and inclusion, often through well-crafted but clichéd advertisements that feature women overcoming regressive situations. A case in point is the new advertisement of a service company that advocates dignity of labour for women professionals who work in salons. The ad features a young salon professional wearing company colours who drives home in a car and has to face an angry younger brother, smarting from the ridicule he has been subjected to by “bade bhaiyyas" in their building.

BJP spreading lies about Sandeshkhali: Mamata Banerjee
Sandeshkhali will sweep Bengal" and decimate the ruling party, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday met a group of women from Sandeshkhali and accused the BJP of spreading lies about her party. Asserting that Bengal was the safest place for women, Banerjee hit out at PM Modi, asking why is the BJP silent on Bilkis Bano, Hathras rape case of UP, women of Manipur and women athletes who have accused BJP leader and WFI president of sexual assault. Banerjee said that a «political tornado» will rise against the BJP while claiming that the BJP is angry with the Trinamool as the party doesn't allow divisive politics in Bengal.

Reading Mein Kampf doesn't a fascist make
Harbouring a copy of Mein Kampf or My Experiments with Truth doesn't make its possessor a fascist or a Gandhian, respectively. Actions do. This principle was reiterated by the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court this week when it freed former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and five others in a case accusing them of harbouring Maoist links. The six were arrested in 2013-14 by Maharashtra Police, charged under UAPA, and convicted by a trial court in 2017 for their alleged membership of the banned CPI(Maoist) and its group, Revolutionary Democratic Front. The trial court's ruling in which their possession of Maoist literature was conflated with breaking the law needed to be overturned.

‘Regulated carbon markets are worth a trillion dollars a year and cover 25% of global emissions — they are raising climate ambition worldwide’
economic strategies underpinning environmental action: What is the core of your research? I’m an environmental economist. My work focuses on policies that create incentives and mobilise finance to tackle climate change, protect forests and restore natural ecosystems as part of climate solutions. Which aspects of the economics of land-use change are becoming key as the environmental crisis grows? It is self-evident, yet remarkable to what extent land-use decisions respond to economic incentives — when the prices of agricultural commodities increase, people plant more crops. When the prices of timber and forest products rise, people shift to planting and tending more trees. This shows there is a role for policies and incentives to move the needle in terms of the choices farmers make. The data shows us how this plays out worldwide. It’s also striking how large the reaction can be — this creates a significant opportunity for well-designed policy to make a difference.

Tech View: Nifty call writers increase positions at 22,500 strike. What should traders do next week
Nifty on Thursday ended 19.5 points higher to form a Doji candle on the daily chart as it stayed below the psychological 22,500 mark, with call writers at the 22,500 strikes significantly increasing their positions. In the case of a dip towards, 22,390 – 22,340 it should be used as a buying opportunity as key hourly moving averages are placed in this range and can attract buying interest. On the upside, 22,570 – 22,600 shall act as an immediate hurdle zone from a short-term perspective, said Jatin Gedia of Sharekhan.
