Jio Financial shares hit 5% upper circuit on likely block deals. Stock may get excluded from Sensex today
Jio Financial Services stock is likely to get excluded from the S&P BSE Sensex from today unless it hits the 5% lower circuit according to estimates from Nuvama. The stock, which hit yet another 5% upper circuit on multiple block deals in the opening trade, had ended with 5% gains in previous two trading sessions. The upper circuit is unlikely to have any impact on its exclusion from Sensex, the Nuvama report said. The day's high for Jio Financial shares stood at Rs 242.80 on the NSE and the stock witnessed strong volume action with 1.24 crore shares trading on the NSE after the block deal news was reported by ETNow. As per the Nuvama report, JIO’s 1.1% weight in Sensex 30 Index means passive selling may involve around 60 million shares, equivalent to roughly $180 million. Any decision on the deferment of exclusion will likely be announced by the BSE during market hours. As far as the Nifty indices are concerned, Nuvama does not see Jio getting deleted until «two consecutive days of the spun-off entity avoiding the price band (upper or lower)». Explaining it further, the brokerage said that no price band hit — upper or lower on Thursday and Friday will lead to exclusion on Monday September 4.

Adani family's partners used 'opaque' funds to invest in its stocks: OCCRP
Adani Group via «opaque» Mauritius funds that «obscured» involvement of alleged business partners of the Adani family, the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) said in an article on Thursday. Citing review of files from multiple tax havens and internal Adani Group emails, nonprofit media organization OCCRP said its investigation found at least two cases where the investors bought and sold Adani stock through such offshore structures. The OCCRP article comes after U.S.-based short-seller Hindenburg Research in January accused Adani Group of improper business dealings, including the use of offshore entities in tax havens such as Mauritius from where it said certain offshore funds «surreptitiously» owned stock in Adani's listed firms. Adani Group has called Hindenburg's claims misleading and without evidence and said it always complied with laws. Days following the January report though, Adani group stocks lost $150 billion in market value and remain down around $100 billion following a recovery in recent months after it repaid some debt and regained some investor confidence. In a statement to OCCRP, Adani Group said the Mauritius funds investigated by reporters had already been named in the Hindenburg report and the «allegations are not only baseless and unsubstantiated but are rehashed from Hindenburg's allegations.» «It is categorically stated that all the Adani Group's publicly listed entities are in compliance with all applicable laws including the regulation relating to public share holdings,» it told the OCCRP, according to the news article. Reuters has not independently verified OCCRP's assertions. Adani Group did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the OCCRP report.HINDEN

‘The Great’: Hulu cancels series after three seasons. Here’s all you need to know
Hulu has officially announced that «The Great» will not be returning for a fourth season. The show, which humorously reimagined the story of Catherine The Great, portrayed her as an optimistic young woman sent to Russia for an arranged marriage with the unpredictable Emperor Peter. The plot follows her journey as she attempts to bring about change in a corrupt and regressive world, involving tasks like eliminating her husband, challenging the church, outsmarting the military, and gaining the support of the court. Starring Elle Fanning as Catherine, along with Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow, the series gained a dedicated audience. The third season, released on May 12, continued the story by depicting Catherine and Peter (played by Hoult) agreeing to mend their relationship after Catherine's previous actions of imprisoning Peter's friends and attempting his murder. The season also focused on Catherine's struggle to win over the Russian people, while Peter dealt with personal struggles and memories of his late father (Jason Isaacs). Created, written, and executive produced by Tony McNamara, the show was co-executive produced by Elle Fanning, alongside Marian Macgowan, Mark Winemaker, Brittany Kahan Ward from Echo Lake, Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, Ron West, and Josh Kesselman from Thruline. The production was a collaboration between Civic Center Media and MRC Television.

Venice Film Festival begins with ‘Comandante’. Here’s what happened
Venice Film Festival commenced on Wednesday with the screening of "Comandante," an Italian WWII drama directed by Edoardo De Angelis, highlighting political themes. Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood, anticipation for this year's festival remained high. In the inaugural press conference, jury president Damien Chazelle and juror Martin McDonagh expressed their support for the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood. They wore shirts and pins displaying «Writers Guild on Strike.» Alberto Barbera, Venice chief, acknowledged the strike's promotional challenges but assured the presence of notable U.S. actors like Adam Driver for «Ferrari,» Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi for Sofia Coppola's «Priscilla,» Caleb Landry Jones for Luc Besson's «Dogman,» and Jessica Chastain for Michel Franco's «Memory.» However, Hollywood stars were absent on the Lido red carpet, where fan excitement centered on jurors Damien Chazelle and Jane Campion. The highlight of the event, led by Italian actor Caterina Murino, was when Charlotte Rampling presented Liliana Cavani with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. Cavani, famed for the 1974 film «The Night Porter,» received the award for her impactful career. Cavani, now 90, also presented her latest film «The Order of Time,» based on Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli's book, in an out-of-competition screening. Italian A-lister Pierfrancesco Favino took the spotlight in «Comandante,» portraying naval commander Salvatore Todaro. The film depicted Todaro's heroic actions during WWII, sinking a Belgian merchant ship and rescuing its crew against orders. The Venice Film Festival will continue until September 9.

Alleged incidents of racism mar EB's Durand Cup semifinal win, AIFF promises 'strict action'
East Bengal's remarkable victory against NorthEast United FC in the Durand Cup semifinal was overshadowed by allegations of racism, with the visiting team fans reporting instances of racial slurs and being targeted with stones and slippers during the match. The 16-time champions exhibited one of the greatest comebacks as they overturned a two-goal deficit in the last two minutes and secured a thrilling 5-3 victory in penalties to make the Durand Cup final after 19 years. However, the scenes that unfolded after the match painted a grim picture as the NEUFC fans, numbering about 100-odd, claimed that the supporters of the Red and Gold brigade aimed projectiles and slurs at them. The match witnessed an attendance of about 22,000-plus spectators. Such was the condition that immediate intervention by the Indian Army and local police was required to ensure safe exit of NorthEast United FC supporters. However there has been no official complaint regarding the alleged incident as yet.
