How to navigate and work with the household’s joint financial decisions
museum was not a good investment of time and money. He had a long walk along the river on his mind. The children were staring at the arguing parents and suggesting that they go to a theme park instead. We systematically underestimate the complexities of joint decisions in a household. Two people, who are different in many ways, come together in a marriage. We also know that children born to the same parents, growing up in the same household, end up being very different people. However, we celebrate the family as a unit, enjoy spending time together, and hope to amicably collaborate and make joint decisions. Authority works for a while. Persuasion lasts a little longer. Mostly, it is willing or unwilling compromise. When it comes to money, it is usually worse. The first idea to internalise is that we all have distinct and different money personalities. Some of us love to spend, some can’t let go of money. Some take risks, others don’t. Some obsess over the long term, others live for the now. The list is long. We may remain together as a family unit, but hold very different views about how to earn, spend, save and invest.

While skipper Rohit Sharma will take charge of the squad from the front, the key highlight would be Pant who will return to the Indian Test squad after nearly 20 months for the two-match series against Bangladesh. Having played in the second and final Test against Bangladesh at Mirpur from December 22-25, 2022, Pant met a road accident a few days later on December 30 and made his return to top-flight cricket only in IPL this year. The 26-year-old swashbuckling batter returned to the national side in their title-winning campaign in the T20 World Cup.

Pension alert: Even the unified scheme could acquire a sell-by date over time
shorturl.at/8Ze9p) has pointed out that during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP’s share of postal ballots in these four states had reduced from its 2019 level, providing some indication of displeasure with the pension system. Postal ballots are mostly cast by senior citizens, persons with disabilities, government officials either on poll duty or serving in locations removed from their constituencies, consular staff in overseas locations and defence personnel. The sharp reduction in the share of postal ballots must have given the BJP think-tank a reason to pause and reconsider its considered stand on pension.

Anti-Naxal ops: CRPF moves in over 4,000 troops in Chhattisgarh for decisive action
CRPF is moving in four battalions comprising more than 4,000 personnel in the worst Naxal-violence affected areas of Bastar in Chhattisgarh as part of a strategy to launch a «decisive battle» to match the Union government's latest resolve of ending the Maoist problem by March 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while declaring this deadline in the Chhattisgarh capital of Raipur last month, emphasised that a «strong and ruthless» plan of action was required to rid the country of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) — once termed the country's biggest internal security threat. Official sources said the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) — the lead internal security and anti-Naxal operations force in the country — withdrew three battalions from Jharkhand and one from Bihar for deployment in the Bastar region, about 450-500 kilometres south of Raipur. It was felt that the Naxal violence situation in these two states had improved and incidents were negligible. Hence, these battalions can be better utilised in Chhattisgarh, where the anti-Naxal operations are now concentrated, they said.

TMC MP's letter to Mamata exposes corruption, dictatorial attitude within party: BJP
TMC MP Jawahar Sircar's letter to West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee has exposed the «dirt, corruption and dictatorial attitude» within the party, the BJP said on Sunday as it pressed for her resignation. Sircar wrote to Banerjee stating that he has decided to resign from the Rajya Sabha and leave politics. He claimed that corruption by a section of leaders of his party — the Trinamool Congress (TMC) — and lack of action against them was one of the reasons for his decision. In a statement, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, «The letter by Jawahar Sircar, TMC MP, exposes dirt, corruption and dictatorial attitude within the TMC. TMC means 'too much corruption'». It indicates that every institution in West Bengal has been corroded with corruption by the Mamata Banerjee government and those who raise the issue are heckled and silenced, he alleged.
