Films will be made in accordance with the current thinking in society”, he added. Aamir Khan is in the mood to spill the beans about Bollywood losing the box-office game to the South. In a conversation with veteran lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar, the ‘3 Idiots’ star shared his insights on where Bollywood is lagging behind South. In the interview, Akhtar lamented how Bollywood is struggling at the box-office and films with South stars who are relatively unknown among Hindi-speaking audiences are dominating the box-office. “The [Hindi] films have lost all connectivity with the audience. Dubbed South Indian films, featuring stars who are unknown to audiences here in North India, are releasing and doing Rs 600-700 crore business. Even the few of our films that end up working are also directed by people from the South. What happened to our people?” wondered the ‘Sholay’ screenwriter. The superstar argued that it’s not a North vs. South problem and that Bollywood actors and producers are ill-equipped to deal with the OTT storm. “Please come and consume our product (film). If you don’t, we’ll come and drop it off at your doorstep in eight weeks (through OTT platforms). This is our business model," he explained.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday expressed his support to Tamil Nadu on the issue of National Educational Policy, saying that the Centre is using the issue to create discord and division in the country. Thackeray said that he agreed with Tamil actor Kamal Haasan who said that the BJP government at the Centre was trying to create 'Hindia'. «Kamal Haasan was right when he said they (Centre) want to create Hindia, they want to create discord in the country. I recently met people from Bihar who said that there were several languages of the state that have become extinct because of Hindi, we are not against Hindi but the BJP wants to create division and rule (with the language issue), said Thackeray while addressing party cadres in Mumbai. The Sena UBT chief had called the party meeting to rebuild the organisation with an eye on the upcoming Mumbai civic elections likely to be held in October-November this year. Shah Rukh Khan secured a major win as the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) ruled in his favor, overturning the reassessment proceedings and order initiated by the tax authorities for the 2011-12 financial year. Against an income of Rs 83.42 crore declared by the actor in his income-tax (I-T) return, the tax officer denied his claims for foreign tax credit (for taxes paid in the UK) and reassessed the income as Rs 84.17 crore. Such reassessment was done beyond four years from the end of the relevant assessment year (2012-13). The ITAT bench held that reassessment of the case by the income-tax department was not legally justified, marking a crucial win for the actor in his prolonged battle over foreign tax credit claims.

Sheen disclosed that he remained unaware of the specific identities of those whose debts he cleared, knowing only their geographical location and the type of financial obligation they held. He emphasized, «I would never know who they are. Even now, I still don't know their identities.» Using £100,000 of his personal savings, the actor successfully established a debt acquisition company, which enabled him to purchase £1 million worth of outstanding loans. Initially unfamiliar with the intricate workings of the debt industry, Sheen admitted, «At first, I had no understanding of how this unusual system operated, but it felt like the right thing to do.»

A few years ago, there were a dozen studios — now just two or three remain, and they too are monopolistic and here for reasons other than filmmaking. The passion for cinema has been replaced by corporate greed and agenda-driven content,” he wrote. He elaborated on the challenges confronting the film industry, emphasizing that its very survival hinges on the presence of bankable star-actors. However, he lamented that there is an alarming dearth of promising new talent. When filmmakers seek to cast actors between the ages of 21 and 35, they find themselves at a loss—both male and female actors in this bracket are scarce.
