PM’s plane broke down in Jamaica during family vacation, requiring 2nd aircraft
Justin Trudeau to Jamaica for a family vacation had a maintenance issue prior to his planned return to Canada this week, prompting a second plane to be flown to the Caribbean island, the Department of National Defence (DND) said Friday.A spokesperson for the department told Global News the issue with the CC-144 Challenger aircraft was discovered during an inspection on Tuesday.A second Challenger carrying a maintenance team was then dispatched to Jamaica on Wednesday and “returned the (original) aircraft to serviceability,” the spokesperson, Andrée-Anne Poulin, said.“The (second) aircraft remained in the area as a back-up if necessary, and the Prime Minister was able to return on the original aircraft” on Thursday, Poulin said. The department did not say what the specific mechanical issue was.The Prime Minister’s Office declined to comment on the problem with the plane, referring questions to DND.The CC-144 Challenger planes were brought into service this fall to replace the military’s aging CC-150 Polaris fleet, which had been used since the 1990s. For decades, one of those Polaris aircraft was dedicated to transporting prime ministers and Canadian delegations, but was plagued with problems in recent years. In September, Trudeau was forced to spend an extra two days in New Delhi, where he had travelled for the G20 leaders’ summit, after the Polaris was grounded over a technical issue discovered during pre-flight checks.

Plane induction by Indian aviation companies soars; 133 planes inducted in 2023, a 51% on-year jump
During 2023, a total of 133 planes were inducted in India, a 51% jump YoY (over 2022) as airline companies scrambled to meet rising demand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said. Out of the total number cited above, 21 were taken on wet lease. The DGCA said that in line with the anticipated increase in aircraft inductions in 2024, it is «suitably enhancing its regulatory capacity to further speed up the regulatory approvals related to the induction of aircraft». Specific information regarding the measures taken to enhance regulatory capacity was unavailable at the time of writing this. «In 2023, scheduled operators added a total of 112 aircraft to their fleets, marking a 38% increase from the 81 aircraft added in 2022. When considering 21 wet/damp lease aircraft, the overall aircraft induction reaches 133, a substantial 51% rise from the previous year's figure of 88.

Lessons to be learnt from the fire incident of Japan Airlines
2007 FAA study on the flammability properties of carbon fibre composites says that the composite body in these modern aircraft retains its structure but eventually burns from the vaporization of the resin. “When it burns, the resin vapor is forced out of the fibre pores. The fibres create an insulating, char-like structure that causes a reduction in the internal heating, and consequently, the burning rate drops in time.

How to pay zero seat allocation charges in flights? Here's what Aviation Ministry says
boarding pass. However, on many occasions, it becomes difficult for you to get the boarding pass without paying an additional fee during the online web check-in process. This happens because the web check-in process has a step where travellers are asked to select a seat where most available seats are assigned a price that they must pay over and above the ticket amount. This looked unfair to most of the air travellers. The issue finally reached Lok Sabha, where the aviation ministry was asked to respond to whether one can get a free seat after paying for the ticket. «Whether it is legal to charge extra amount during online check-in after purchase of ticket and if so, the details thereof,» was the question asked in Lok Sabha on 21 December 2023.
